    Glove box problems anyone?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone else experience problems closing their glove box on the first try? it used to happen on my B5 as well, but i thought it was only because it was a used car.

But my brand new B7 did this from Day 1 - any one else??? and if so - what is the fix ?

Mine used to do that a lot, but now it doesn't. But the light inside doesn't like to turn on when it is open now.

You have a light in you're glove box? I didn't know that was available.

Audi had a TSB on the glove box not opening properly. I got mine fixed, might want to look into it instead of bitching as it is a documented problem.

I was having a problem like that off and on. Eventually my glove compartment just snapped off and fell on the floor. I went to the dealership and they replaced in under warranty after ordering the part.

    Re: Glove box problems anyone?

i'll just mention the reason the glove box breaks. its because there is a door 'brake' which slowly lowers the door once you open it. problem is most people force it down. this causes the 'brake' to wear out and puts stress on the hinges. over time...it all breaks.

to properly open the glove box you just pop the handle and let it fall open on its own.

    TSB. Warranty Fix.

What a fantastic idea Audi, a brake on a door that most people rarely want to be getting into anyways!

The light no longer comes on because the right hand side bracket for the glove box is broken and does not extend all the way to release the light plunget to turn it on...

Atleast thats the problem with mine.

one of the things that hold the glovebox (in the latch) is probably broken, had to deal with it on my b6, and just recently had the dealership replace the one on my b7, it was broken at the right latch. fixed under warranty too

there was more resistance when the new latch was put in, versus when it was broken, you just dont have to force shut or open and it will be fine, as stated above, and what my service advisor said.

Angry Re: Glove box problems anyone?

    Guys:

Audi actually has a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on this problem which states the glove compartment cover brake element is FAULTY...this is NOT nromal "wear and tear" and you should've have to "go easy" on your glove box door, for crying out loud. Anyway, it's TSB 68 08 10 2012801/3, and it states it applies to the following vehicles:

    - A3s (2005-2006)
    - A4s (2002-2006)
    - A4 Cabriolets (2003-2006)
    - A8s (2003-2006)

I can't post the Copyrighted TSB. However, I had ALREADY deduced on my own that the faulty glove compartment door damper was causing me to pull open the door every time and was possibly damaging the door hinges.

If your glove compartment door isn't opening anymore or requires you to pull it open by hand, bring it to your Audi dealer before you reach 12 months/12,000 miles on your vehicle. State you are having trouble getting the door to open and have to pull on it excessively, and request warrantee service. After 12/12,000, they will NOT fix it, because it's considered "interior trim"...ridiculous, I know, that Audi thinks it's okay their glove compartments can fall off after 12 months at customer expense.

One has to buy a new glove compartment and/or glove compartment door to repair this because the hinges are integrated with the part. I'm afraid to even ASK what they charge for a new glove compartment door or the entire compartment!

So much for high-quality German engineering...lol. What galls me about this is that it's been a KNOWN faulty issue for a while, and they didn't send out any notices to any Audi owners who might've had the problem and not realized it wasn't a "feature"...and who could've fixed it before the "interior trim" warrantee expired.

If you develop this problem with your glove compartment door and don't get it fixed before 12 months/12,000 miles then you're screwed! I'm not sure if there's a way to lubricate the faulty brake/damper element to prevent the excessive slowness...

By the way, here's a link to the post from a guy who says he found replacement door brakes and fixed this for an earlier model Audi...not sure which cars this would work for, or what the part numbers would be for the new, improved dampers Audi is supposedly using now:

I just commented on this last night over on Audiworld.... I got the TSB done this time last year and they actually replaced the entire door and assembly for me.

The broken part on my car actually looks to be part of the door...
