Where did you guys place your radar detector. I have a valentine and i want to hardwire it however it is a very awkward shape and always rattles due to the back hitting the windshield.

First off, V1 FTMFL. Second, by the rearview mirror, high mounted, passenger side.

the V1 is the best, keep it. Tons of people have hardwired it but unfortunately I don't have links. Im sure if you searched something would come up.

    Re: radar detectors

hard wire is simple, run cable to the side where the fuses are, find one that turns on/off when the key is in and tap into that. And there you have it, a hard wired radar.

you can adjust the v1 on the clip..maybe you have too close and it hits the windshield, mine is perfect and I bump my music and it doesnt hit...

    Re: radar detectors

the 9500ix has the blue interface... i wish it had the red interface like th 9500i... but yes 9500 are the most advanced radar detector out there. the V1 is old school but still has the best detection just a little too sensitive for me... not to mention not being able to hide false alarms like i used to be able to with my 9500... i miss it... f*ckin thieves

    Re: radar detectors

I placed mine right under the rear view mirror...in order to get rear detection (if any) it must be clear and level therefore it has a nice line on both sides, then I just ran the hardwired cord around the review once then up the liner and down the side to the fuse box and setup my mute button right next to my light switch...

    Re: radar detectors

I just did the hardwire about a month ago with the Escort 9500ix. I put it right where Brent27 did, just under the rear view. The cord doesn't get in the way, as it wraps around the rear view.

I love the GPS in the 9500ix. It rarely goes off anymore, since you can program it to ignore the false alarms (ie. automatic doors). Plus it tells you your speed for the first few seconds when it picks up radar signal.

It's also really convenient to have the mute button in the dash.

Too sensitive? don't you want it to tell you everything?

Anyways. I have my V1 right under the rear view mirror on the drivers half of the windsheild. Do you still have the hardwire piece that came with your V1? Mine is tapped into a Black/Purple stripe wire that is coming from the back of the fuse panel. you need to pop the cover off to get to those wires. I tried to do a fuse tap and when I removed the tap it messed with the fuse and that fuse wasn't powering anything. The spot where the fuse goes in got stretched out.

    Re: radar detectors

i used the instructions on the link in my sig <<warning: AudiWorld.com content>> the fuse i tapped was the washer fluid heater fuse. it took me a couple tries to get a switched fuse and not one that's on all the time. at the link, the guy used his existing 12V adapter. i'd suggest getting a new one to cut up in case you screw up. as for mounting, i use a visor clip. it's not the greatest since i don't have use of my visor now (tho i'm tall enough that i rarely need it), but i don't have the suction cup circles on my windshield.
