I remember reading somewhere that the vents help cool the brakes

looks like it should cool brakes but honestly it's more likely to channel air away from it and causes slightly less downforce. Yes it is all for show.

Re: function of RS4 side vents?

i was under the impression they were to stay in line with the previous rs4 design/styling... since they had the gills to suck air into the intercoolers... i dont think the ones on the b7 serve any purpose at all...

They are both additional engine radiators, in addition there is also an oil cooler in the left side and I think (but not certain) there is a power steering cooler in the right side.

The brake cooling scoops are under the car integrated into the bottom aerodynamic pan.

And yes, they do look cool.

well sort of 50:50 cosmetic:functional... there's radiators in both sides, but those vents are right at the sides of those radiators, not behind.

Re: function of RS4 side vents?

There are three radiators on the RS4...center and two sides. The gills draw air out through the two side radiators. They are fully functional.

There are two oil coolers...one oil/coolant, and one oil/air. The air cooler is in front of the center radiator.

Brake cooling air comes from two NACA ducts on the belly pan which connect to two nozzle ducts aimed at the hubs, where the rotor vents draw air in.
