    Hello everyone, I have noticed that there are a lot of threads out there on suspension, different setups, etc. I currently have my A3 sitting on the H&R Cupkit Sport, awesome kit for the price, however I would like the availability to adjust my suspension for track, daily driving, etc. I decided we need a thread that will discuss all the available adjustable coilover setups out there. So feel free to post a review, your setup, other kits out there that have not been discussed already in this thread, etc. If you think you have the best or worst setup, please explain why instead of just saying for example... "H&R FTW!"

    Ok, so here are some adjustable coil over kits that I found, with a brief description of the materials used to construct them, etc. I will add reviews in a little bit.

    Vivid Racing has a long relationship with JIC coilovers and our project cars. We install JIC on almost every project car for one reason... they work! Our list of cars using JIC include our EVO VIII, Pepsi RX7, Drift 240SX, Porsche 996C2, our 700HP Porsche 996TT, Subaru STI, and our new EVO X. But why do we choose JIC Coilovers?

    First lets talk about the functionality of the JIC coilovers. These coilovers feature 15 way adjustable dampening. Many of the competitions coilovers only have 9 or 10 way adjustable. The single adjustment for rebound and compression offers the ability to fine tune the ride for your street or track use. Depending on your other components such as tires and sway bars, the dampening will allow you to dial in your handling to squat and react as you need to fit your driving style.

    Next, the JIC coilovers use monotube dampers. A monotube damper is much more rigid and stronger then a standard twin tube that you will find in many cheaper systems. The damper is nitrogen gas filled and setup specifically according to the spring rates and vehicle dynamics. The monotube damper also is very fast reacting to the road surfaces. One of our customers who test drove a Porsche 996TT with JIC Cross coilovers was suprised at the outstanding ride and functionality of the JIC compared to his Moton setup in his Porsche Cup racecar.

    One big advantage of the JIC is that they include front camber plates and rear pillow ball mounts. The front camber plates replace the factory rubber strut tops to offer a very responsive and rigid steering response. In addition for those that do like to track their car or have aggressive suspension setups, the camber plates can allow of up to 3 degrees of negative camber. The rear strut uses pillowball mounts which like the fronts, improve upon the rigidity with the solid monoball setup. All JIC coilovers feature incredible and very easy to adjust on the car ride height. You can usually set the ride height to be close to stock or a drop of around 3 inches. With our car and the 19" IForged wheels with Michelin PS2 tires, we were able to have the car sit nicely on top of the tires for that clean Euro tucked look.

    Usually one disadvantage of coilovers is the harsh ride. Many times, coilovers even with the dampening set at the softest level will still ride more harsh then the stock suspension. Having driven many different cars on the street and track with JIC coilovers, I expected the same with the Audi A3. To my excitement and suprise, it was not! The car rode very smooth with no bounce or hard hits from the road surface. Even going over some train tracks the coilovers absorbed and performed well. In turns, the car stays much more flat and with the help of the Neuspeed rear sway bar, the car is really dialed.

    Overall, the JIC Cross coilovers for our Project Audi A3 were a great package to add. As this car progresses further, the excitement to possibly take it to a track day will happen. Our next step is to complete the exterior with an aero kit from Rieger or Oettinger. Enjoy the pictures!

    Startup Racing / Vogtland Coilovers

    Startup Racing has a modified version of the Vogtland Adjustable Coilover with revalved Koni shocks (higher compression rate, and adjustable rebound) and higher rate progressive springs. These are a performance-oriented setup for track days and autocross. They also can supply the kit with diffferent rate springs, for instance 400Lb vs 500Lb rear springs for use with a Neuspeed RSB.

    Also, the Vogtland progressive springs seem to have a quicker transition from soft to firm, and so load up better with less 'lag' than others I've experienced. But still, being progressives, they still offer improved ride comfort over linear rate springs.

    I have the 400Lb springs, the Neuspeed bar set on soft, and for autocross, I set the tire pressures, a quick twist of the adjusters in front and I'm ready to go.

    I've had other high-quality coilovers on two other cars, and these are the best setup I've ever had. Highly recommended

    I know a guy near where I work and he has teins on his A3, ride isnt all that great and has major rubbing issues and fitment issues... they make great "japanese kits" should probably go with something made a little more european. I ran teins on my old DC2 Integra, they were okay... bouncy, but okay, very stiff if thats what youre looking for.

    Definitely not a fan of ricing out a european car :-) I noticed on Tein's website they have a A3 specific kit, is this the kit your friend has, I would be very interested to learn more or see pics.

    I know they are mainly known for what they do with the japanese cars but they make quality porducts...

    TEINs are quite spendy as far as for the A3. I think it runs like $1600+? Well named on JP cars, not quite sure on EUro but i know they are stiff which is good if u are looking for that.

    Yes Eibach has a CO for our car. Pro St. i believe is what the line is call.

    I myself...not sure what I want to go with...but I do want the best compromise between performance and streetability, what will really dial in the car the best and still not be to harsh for daily driving...

    Also on the Eibach's....their website doesnt say much. A picture of springs comes up for our car but they are priced at $1500 so i'm guessing the picture on their website is wrong. Anyone find a place that sells the coilover kit for our car?

    If you guys want a stiffer setup, the k-sports can be to the point where you're floating on air down to the point where you feel the pine needles you're driving over... I hear k-sports are a nice way to go on the track as well.

    I've used Tein, honestly wasnt very impressed on my other cars (japanese cars), for those I would go with a full skunk2 setup If I were to ever rebuild another Honda.

    I dont have coilovers yet, just the H&R sport cup kit, and it rides very smooth yet aggressive, I might be looking into going with an H&R coilover setup.

    If you want full function, I’ll go with PSS10 but is quite spendy! Stasis St Sport is great mix used for performance, Street and a bit of everything.

    I have the Stasis street sport CO's on my B5 S4 and can't say i'm overly impressed with the ride quality or handling ability...you give up a bit of ride quality for a bit more firmness is how I would describe it. Stasis makes some amazing CO setups for Audi, just their A3 selection is limited to the street sports. I'm guessing its due to the rear spring and perch design and that true CO's can't be fitted to the rear...

    I've rode in a B6 with Stasis COs and I wasn't impressed, when I drove it, it wasn't very aggressive, nor go-kart like.

    I've never drivin a car with the premiums, however they are super lightweight, so I bet there is a quicker spring rate/response. I bet they would handle very well, reviews say they are highly suggested for track use.

    ^^ I hear the K-sports are excellent. I've never personally used them, however only heard great things for the price. You can have them for street driving or track, and they perform well. Also you can slam your car if you want with the k-sports, cause I believe the adjustability allows you to adjust a little over 4" in ride height lol

    What would one recommend for being able to be lower than a stock non s-line, but still have improved performance? I don't race my A3 or anything but I want to feel the difference between stock suspension and coilovers that will cost me $1,000+ (i.e. better handling, but not too harsh of a ride).

    I come from a 4x4 truck background and now am starting to learn about the street performance background.
    What's the most popular kit everyone seems to use for their daily drivers?

    I run the fk highsports, i got them for 850 at supreme power. It is ride adjustable only with fixed dampening. On their website, they claim for it to be firm yet comfortable. I find that these coils are pretty f'n stiff. Handling is great. I weigh 220 and when i sit in my car, it doesnt even drop. Pretty good so far, i've only had them for 2 months. It comes with progressive springs.

    If a coilover manufacturer only offers a 1 or 2 year warranty, that should tell you something (i.e. you get what you pay for). We WILL NOT offer a coilover kit that does not include a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.

    Just something to chew on when trying to "budget" on coilovers.
