    Moving Down South, Pomona Area

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Well, it looks like my time up in Northern California is coming to an end, and within the next couple of months I will be moving down South.

I will be working in Pomona, and am looking for good areas to start looking for an apartment/condo to rent for a while.

A little background on me and my girlfriend. We're 26 & 27 years old, college graduates and we're looking for a nice area where 'young professionals' live. We'd like to have a nice place to live, pretty quiet, but still close to areas with a good night life. Not looking to live with the younger college crowd, more like the mid 20's to mid 30's type of neighborhood.

Living within 45 minutes drive time of Pomona would be ideal. Any suggestions for areas to check out? I'll have a little bit of time to figure out where to live since I'll be working in Pomona starting in the middle of December, but the actual move won't be for 1-2 months after that.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Re: Moving Down South, Pomona Area

Pomona and the areas around it pretty much suck. Your best bet is to head west on the 60 or 10 to around the Pasadena/San Gabriel area. It's under 30 min from Pomona unless traffic is bad (then it could be around an hr.) and Pasadena is probably the only area in Socal that has a little bit of culture. You'd also be close to LA, where there is a lot more going on but you wouldn't have to be stuck right it the mess. I live in a 3 bdrm town home in that area and happen to have two rooms open to rent out if you don't mind having a roommate. I fit the description for the kind of people you want to be around and you sound like the type of tenants I would want. Let me know if you're interested. If not, you should still check the area out.

If your looking for some "nicer" areas, look into San Dimas, Claremont, Rancho Cucamonga, Upland, Walnut or Diamond Bar areas. Pomona itself is a shit city ( i know cause my girl lives there). My car got keyed in her driveway (not on the sidewalk, parked in her driveway) by a douchebag neighbor who I was going to go over and kill but luckily they got evicted before i got to them. What part of pomona you working at?

I agree, also look at Chino Hills that's a really good community being that it's nice and quiet and it pretty much meets all the requirements your lookng for, not to mention you're within 10 min. from Pomona

As a Pomona resident - you're all a bunch of a**holes and I am deeply offended.

Actualy most of Pomona does suck. I happen to live in Ganesha Hills and really love it.

As for places to look I'd strongly recommend Claremont. The Village West expansion includes some great townhomes. They're not cheap but it's a great downtown atmosphere - the type where you'd really feel no need to go out of the city on the weekends.

Keep us posted on where you end up.

Re: Moving Down South, Pomona Area

Rancho Cucamonga, Claremont, Chino Hills...all great communities, and relatively close to Pomona.

If you're willing to drive a little - then head for Monrovia, Arcadia, Pasadena. They're a little further out, but not too bad. You'd be going opposite traffic heading East in the AM and West in the PM.

There's a lot of us in this area. We have a bi-weekly GTG in Pasadena. Come say hi once you've moved in.

Sahara Cafe is the shit, it was the first hookah place i went to when i was younger, haven't been there in ages tho.

Dont forget, theres also the Socaleuro.com "Manic Monday Meets" at Ontario Mills on Monday nights, and our shop, Genesis Autosport is relatively near Pomona (15 mins east on the 10 fwy) if you ever need any parts or work done

Avoid the parts of Chino Hills and Diamond Bar that burned down

    j/k

Agree on Claremont/La Verne... Glendora is also a good option. Actually, that whole strip of towns along the 210 is pretty nice from Rancho Cucamonga all the way to Pasadena and falls roughly into your 30 minute window.

Hint -> if you live to the west of Pomona you will be going opposite traffic all the time.

I went to school at Cal Poly Pomona...Pomona isn't that great

Walnut and Diamond Bar are better.

Friends lived in Chino Hills, and that was nice as well.

Good luck...my car was stolen from school housing...also the lights were jacked like 4 times. Acura Integra, that is...er was.

seriously I live like 5 min away lol. The parts that got burned in chino hills are pretty much the canyon and parts of the state park, and all the people I know that live in the canyon have homes in the 1 mill and up.

Those of you that live in these areas can correct me if I'm wrong, but Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, Walnut, etc... not really the mid-20s to mid-30s neighborhood the OP is looking for, is it? Those areas just strike me as having an older demographic.

I live in Pasadena and it's great, though it's certainly not the closest option for you. Lots of young professionals in the area, primarily south of the 210. There is a bit of a student presence due to Caltech and PCC, but it's not overly rowdy. The biggest thing to happen at Caltech lately was when their cannon was stolen by MIT last year.

You're right about some of those cities, but Claremont is absolutely the right demographic - and it's right next door to Pomona.

Re: Moving Down South, Pomona Area

They do tend to have an older demographic due to cities being so nice and quiet because there's no college life around the surrounding cities, but that was exactly what the OP said he was looking for in a location.

Chino Hills has grown immensly especially with it's spectrum and the new Shoppes for nice humble night life. The surrounding cities are still within 45 min. from L.A. and Orange County beaches, so... whether the OP and his girlfriend want to make a trip to LA or Long Beach to party it's still within 45 min. or they could go to the OC beaches for the same purposes or relaxation it's still within the same time frame.

The best part is that even if he chooses to stay in the surrounding cities he is still within 10 min. from Pomona for work and he will be in the middle to everything.

    Downtown or West LA.
If you guys work the regular 8-5 hours than you would always be driving against traffic. So the 30 mile commute shouldn't take more than 40 min.

There's really nothing out in that area (Pomona, Chino Hills, Diamond Bar, etc...).
