insight please: help installing sideskirts with glue or tape

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
[not sure where else to post this]

just got me some OSIR sideskirts for my 8P A3

they are 100% glue or tape on fiberglass skirts...no holes or tabs
there is a small grove that somewhat latches onto the car but is more of a lip just to hang onto the OEM sideskirt a bit cleaner

im dropping them off to paint today and need to know whats the best adhesive or tape or both to install when i get them back

obviously need something sturdy/strong that will last and not fall off...
plus keeps its tight and flush with the car...
quick drying, sticky, withstands weathering and vibration, etc...

    any thoughs/tip/experiences/recommendations?

    thanks guys!

Re: insight please: help installing sideskirts with glue or tape

Use a tube of polyurethane which will allow you to move the sideskirt around a bit when it is soft to adjust the fit.

Then take some masking tape and secure the sideskirt the the car as tight as possible and let dry.

If there is a contact point with the car that is out of the line of sight then I'd also suggest putting a couple of screws at either end to help secure it to the car.

what are you thought on VHB 3M tape?
as mentioned elsewhere, im worried about the mess, the time to dry...and damage glue can cause...

    or maybe both?

id say 3m double sided tape. taht shit holds pretty tough. also may want to look into using magnets if possible? like earth ones or something. i think they hold 25 pounds or some shit. would work well with the 3m tape imo

Re: insight please: help installing sideskirts with glue or tape

My rear hatch spoiler came with high strength 3M double sided tape attached to it and my bodyshop guy still added a bead of poly onto the unit to help it stick on the car better.

There is no mess with the poly. Get a gun, cut a fine hole and drop a thin bead on the sideskirt, press onto the car, adjust and tape down and let dry.

The problem with tape is if you don't have enough contact surface it won't stick properly and if the tape is too thick you'll get a tiny gap.

You don't have this problem with poly as it will disperse when you apply pressure to it.

Get it at Home Depot or call a bodyshop and see if they use a special brand which dries faster.

could stick em on the inside of the skirt (bit of epoxy or something?) tricky part would be to find a place for it to tag to on the underside of the car (maybe like just inside your factory skirt)

Re: insight please: help installing sideskirts with glue or tape

it really depends if you want it to come off later or not. I have used the stuff lltek sells. Yeah Yeah. I held my roof spoiler on so go when the stole my car, they tried to rip the roof spoiler off and shattered the rear window trying. Well the roof spoiler they never got off. So i guess it pretty damn strong. haha.
