Hi to ALL, new to Audizine but not to Audi/Vw world.

Whats up everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, my names Pauly from Chicagoland, and well I just picked up a 1999 A4 to be completely swapped out.

I got a great deal on the A4 2.8 5spd, body is in GREAT shape and well I also have a S4 automatic rear ended donor car.

So what am I gonna be doin, the obvious swap out the 2.7T motor into the A4. There's 3 of us all in on this, me, my other guy with the S4, and my other boy who's a Audi Tech.

Goals for 2008:
1. Swap out 2.8 for 2.7T and see if the 5spd will work on the 2.7 just for now. Only because we have no money for a 6sp yet, and we just want this thing to run, we could get it done in about 3 days, with a full Saturday, my guy is a whiz and works fast at pulling engines in and out, then again that's how he makes a living.

2. Swap out tan interior for black S4 interior. Will take time but easy.



Goals for 2009:
1. Debating whether to grab KO4s or RS6 turbos?? need help here, I see guys running KO4s all days running 11s even 10s with nothing but a shell/motor. Are the RS6 turbos really worth the extra $1400 or so?

2. everything that goes with #1 which = a lot of $$$ hence 2009.

sounds fun... but you might want to think about suspension since the a4 has touring and not sport suspension.

Oh yea suspension will be a must. For this next month all we want is to swap the 2.7 in there. After that, all the donor parts will come into play, brakes/interior/xenons/etc suspension might leave it until we get some coilovers just cause we'll prob need everything replaced anyway that comes with suspension upgrades.

first street drag, but in the end most likely will be a weekend track car, with stripped interior and 2 racing seats. But that will most likely be in a while. Were swapping out interiors only because its free, the tan is ugly as hell I cant stand it.

I'd just sell the parts you don't really need then, the S4 interior and whatever else isn't going in the A4. There's your money to offset the cost of building it.

Should be a fun project that's for sure. Especially since I finally graduated from college and finally have some money to do what I always wanted. Ive have an 02' GTI 337 since it was brand new and thats my daily. chipped/DP/SS small things, now its time to step it up a notch.

I would sell some stuff but its not only my project car, there's 3 of us. I don't think it will be a waste. I got the A4 for $1500. All the S4 parts are already here. Its all labor, which we do ourselves. If I was paying someone to do this, then no way would I try this.

You're taking on a HUGE project in this engine/drivetrain swap. All a VAG-COM is going to do is tell you why it won't start But seriously..you're looking at a lot of work..best of luck..

Well huge is an, without it, you cant start the car after the swap cause of the immobilizer.

all B5 transmission bell-housings are fully inter-changeable. The only difference is the 01a in the 1.8T A4 uses a different subframe and driver side mount that requires the BT 1.8 guys that want to use the taller geared 2.8 tranny to swap subframes as well as transmissions. The other situation is that when or if you do go for the 01E transmission, you will also need the cv axels, and driveshaft. I can't remember if you need the front knuckles but I don't believe you do. There's some information about it on the forum if you ulook hard enough.

you can search if you like for more details, but, long story short; 2.8 Heads will provide no benefit with anything smaller than big GT turbos.

cool thanks blm, yea I mean to be completely honest, if we can get 400-450whp on ko4s, were still debating on rs6 turbos (we'll see how the funds are doing) then the 27heads will stay and we'll sell the 28 motor for whatever we can get, maybe enough for say the difference between ko4s and rs6 turbos.

Any news on how jhm rs6 project is going? last time I read rs6 with stock etc, was hanging in there nicely with a ko4 and extra

1. You dont need to swap subframes, whoever told you that is plain wrong , switching mounts does the job just fine

2. You also need the rear end which is 4.11 over the A4 3.89
