just got a call that my brother totaled my car. it is a 2000 s4 with 66,000 miles on it.
wondering if you guys know how much we will get from insurance claim?

My guess would be whatever the replacement value is of a stock S4, if that's the extent of your insurance. Use kbb.com to get a ballpark.

I got $15,500 for my 2000 silver s4 I had totaled 2 months ago. it just rolled over to 60k miles. I made $5,500 off of that car in the month that I owned it.. I have State Farm, and have had good experience with them.

If you have any aftermarket stuff there - you really need to show them all the bills for that. It will help. Also - with 66K miles... I would say - 12-13. But you need to argue all that stuff.

it will largely depend on your insurance - not all insruances are the same - Manaheim auction prices on these cars are in the 5-8k$ range, and often if an insurance company can replace the car for that much, that's what you'll get. You are not entitled to retail pricing - Now with that said, don't let them low ball you - make them find you an S4 with less or similar miles and options, if you had a rare color, point that out - ask any supra owner - more often than not replacing your car with their value is nearly impossible but it's up to YOU to prove that.

Being a State Farm agent, they will offer you fair market value. If there were any recent repairs or upgrades done, BE SURE to mention them as they will take that into consideration when making their offer.

You know.. sometimes I think all of this is happening becuase our cars are AWD and people get overconfident. I've spun my car but that was on ice... I was in 4th gear going about 30, flored it once boost hit it lost traction and spun.. there was no getting control back. Luckly there was an ice slope on the curb so it didnt slam into anything.. just climbed the slope and went into the high school footfall field.... but ya, AWD is nice but it doesnt defy the laws of physics.

all very good points, but the main reason that these cars are being considered a "total loss" from an insurance company perspective is that they are getting older (00-02 MY) and resultantly worth less and less $. if the damage estimate is worth more than 80% of the car's value they total it. I'm sure I could have bought my car back from insurance and fixed it, I just didn't want to have a "rebuilt" title because let's face it, it would be really hard to sell when it came to that point.

Agreed. I lent an employee my old 4000q to get him and his brother around in a bad snow weekend. He had an A4q that wasn't "winterized". When passing the wheel on to his brother, he told me he said to him: "Remember, it's got quattro...but it aint magic...Be careful..."

I think people definitely overestimate it's ability. Not that it was the case in this accident, but some of the wrecks people have been posting, I wouldn't be surprised if they were asking too much of the car...

Mine is rebuilt... I bet you my core support, radiator, intercoolers, headlights, hood, fenders, bumper, bumper support, bumper shocks are NEWER than yours. lol but yeah, there is definetly some paranoia about buing rebuilt vehicles. Thats why whenever I rebuild a car I have plenty of before and after pictures that way when selling time comes the customer can make his own decision on the quality of the work that was done to it.

you cannot use KBB to expect the value of your car at all... KBB undervalues the car a lot. When I totalled my 99 M3, they gave me 21 THOUSAND. That was two years ago, but still... they told me to use NADA, that is what insurance companies use, not KBB.

edit. jeez, i just looked, NADA will get you 13 or something like that it said...

I wonder why the '99 M3 holds more value than the '00 S4... The M3 still will get you close to 16K. Thats crazy.

let me break it down for you. old people buy expensive cars, however just like when old people were young, new cars get old. old people don't want old cars so they sell them for cheaper than they bought them in order to buy the newest cool thing on the block. the second tier of people that cannot afford a hugely expensive vehicle now say "ah. a car thats really nice and no longer extremely expensive! i will have it!!!" but alas...even middle incomers still get tired of their rides. lather, rinse, repeat and were looking at a car that once was 50k and is now $14.83 to buy outright. so all the thuper thweet bros want to get a fast fly ass ride smash their piggy banks open and go out and buy their very own S4. sadly, anyone who pays 14.83 for a car is likely to be low income or young and are thus...stupid.

so what have we learned here? well for one, this car is in the hands of mongrols. and secondly i wouldnt be surprised if there were 4 or 5 more wrecks in the next month. its a sad trend.

lol, well i didn't mention but they had taken into consideration that only a couple thousand miles earlier, i had just done the clutch and flywheel @ BMW brand new. my insurance company reimbursed me the 3 grand for that.
