Winter tires for B5 S4 wheels 235/55 ??

Just picked up a set of Goodyear Eagle Ultra Grip GW3 winter tires in 235/55/17. Should have found out for sure first, but can anyone with experience tell me how bad they will rub?

Well, 235/45 will rub on the strut on the OE wheel (ET45). The 27.2" tall, and OE is 25.0", so plan accordingly.

Will they work at all or rub constantly? Could I use spacers?

Proper B5 winter tires are 225/45-17 or 205/50-17. Some even run wider like my 245/40-17 which are great in deep snow and around town but can get sketchy on a slushy freeway.


Sell them. No way they are going to fit. Your tires are the same width as mine and much taller which puts the sidewall into the spindle. The rear is a tighter fit than the front due to the way the spindle curves up and over the top of the tire. Spacers won't help since the tires are too wide to move far enough over for clearance.

Would a 215/55-17 fit? Still too tall or will the smaller width help?

I would recommend 225/45/17.
