In the market to buy, sport package or not ?

    Hi guys,

This is my first post so please bare with me. I've been reading on the B6 for a couple of days before asking this but I could not find an answer to this yet.

I'm interested in buying a B6 with the manual 1.8T setup. Now I read and saw that a sport package edition sits 1inch lower than the regular one. The rear sway bar is 20mm instead of 18 as well. What else does the sport package brings to the table ?

Is it worth the trouble of looking for one with this package or is it about the same putting some soft lowering coil springs on a non sport edition about the same ?

Re: In the market to buy, sport package or not ?

    Sport pkg comes with:
18mm rear sway bar (vs 16mm)
    lower suspension (stiffer shocks/struts)
Welded in front strut tower brace
    17" sport rims

Ultra sport pkg comes with the above items and a body kit and 18" rims.

IMO if you want to modify the suspension then buying the sport pkg may be a waste of $ or make it harded for you to find a B6 w/ the pkg. Drive a sport and non-sport and see if you like either. I like my factory sport suspension ride. It's noticably lower than non-sport, but the ride for a daily driver IMO is a good balance and not overly harsh.

I really like my Sport model vs non sports and the way it looks. Also didn't the sport have a spoiler on the trunk.

    ^ no.

Sport pkg is just a suspension and tire/wheel upgrade as mentioned above.

The Ultrasport Pkg adds both exterior and interior upgrades over the Sport Pkg.

Ok, my 2002 has a truck spoiler on it and it has an OEM part number stamped in the bottom of it, was it an add on then.

Re: In the market to buy, sport package or not ?

Cool that's great info, so I'll try to find one to road test it at the very least before fixing my mind.

I read somewhere that the sport package shocks were a diffrent color, what should I look for ?

I plan for it to be my daily and it's going to drive through winter, so if I can spare fiddling with the suspension and go through the (usually) hassle of having a mismatched shock/aftermarket coils (which I've been through more than my share with my Neon and my SRT4) that would be a plus.

Does the ultra sport package have anything to do with the interior triming (wood vs cf look-alike vs leather or whatnot )?

MY 2002 didn't have USP, but had lowest OEM suspension. I like it like that. Added (too) big spoiler and looks sporty enough.

Sport Package adds the silver fishscale trim on the inside. At least for 2002 years.

My car came with Sport Package and this is what I got:
silver fishscale interior trim (as opposed to the ugly fake wood grain)
stiffer shock absorbers and lowering springs
    front upper strut tower brace
bigger front and rear anti-roll bars
    17inch wheels

My sport package came with the dark grey (almost black) trim.

If you are going to change your suspension AND your rims and you can find a non-sport package for 1K cheaper, do it.

If you are willing to fork out more for a '04 or '05 USP, do that above all.

the sport package shocks are red. Everyone asks me if I lowered it. its worth it if you dont want to do coil overs on your daily driver.

I love my USP. Do a search for ultrasport package. I remember there are quite a few threads on the differences between the models and what came with each.

Why specifically the 04-05 ? compared to say 02-03 ?

NO USP in 02-03, just sport.
