Ok, I am getting a clunking noise from the front passenger side when breaking. Could this be a bad ball joint? Any ideas before I take it in?

    Re: Clunking Noise

When I had a clunking sound it was because the subframe bolts where loose, though this was not a braking issue. Just thought I'd through it out there.

    Re: Clunking Noise

you guys are gunna have to do some visual inspections...look at all your control arm bushings and tug and pull on parts... grab your tire top and bottom (with the car off the ground) and push on the top and pull on the bottom then vise versa and if the ball joints are bad you will feel movement.

    Re: Clunking Noise

clucking noise when braking or accelerating usually is a CV Joint. That is my guess, but hard to tell with out more info or diagnosing it.

look in by your wheel and see if there is a shit load of grease in there. most the time when the CV joint is bad the boot tears and shit gets everywhere.

Then its one of your tires! swap the two front tires and see if it pulls the other direction!

Same exact issue here, alignment shop charged me $30 to torque all my subframe bolts, fixed the issue immediately.

    Re: Clunking Noise

My 03 audi started doing the same...

Its just randomly , when I brake .. I hear and almost feel a clicking
, like a load creak when I brake , ussually i can hear it towards the
front on the passanger's side feet area.. Sometimes I swear I hear it close
to the center console . but It 's a noise defenitely coming from the passanger area?

Should I replace the control arms, ball joints on the passanger side.

What about the subframe, I heard they can crack in the welds, thus causing the clicking ( creaking noise)

    Re: Clunking Noise

How many time will I have to say this on AZ

if you have a poping noise when coming near to a complete stop... chance are 99% your front subframe is shot !!

it should clunk more easely when your coming to a stop on a step hill downward !!

    Re: Clunking Noise

    Add me to the list.
I have been searching this subject for a while now..and can't seem to track down the cause.
Inspected under the car and along the backside of the wheels, nothing unusual there.
I still need to pull the wheel well liner and inspect a little further, but am looking for some direction.

    Re: Clunking Noise

The subframe bolts should be an easy check, get a long prybar and a socket and torque those bad boys down, if you hear the clunking when turning/braking it could very well be a CV (this is like the 4th cv post i have had today wtf)

    Re: Clunking Noise

Do people not check out there own car before posting on here? I swear. Who brings back old threads anyways.

Like stated earlier, get the DAMN car in the air people.

I had the same issue/sounds coming from front of my car. Popped/clunked when I stopped, started, turned, sat in my car, looked at it funny. You know what I did, put it on jack stands. Now if you don't have a jack, borrow one. Wiggle the $hit outta your tires and see if the car makes any noises. No? Then try this one, with car in the air, crank the crap out of your steering wheel and see if the pop starts with that. If that's the winner, steering column. Learn how to adjust for steering lash and fix your problem. Doesn't work, new steering rack and search for DIY, it's been done before.

Still no luck, subframe, suspension, etc....

Look under your car and see if you have a dead squirrel up there too. Post pics if so.

    Are you serious??
What's wrong with asking questions about a thread/topic that has already been started? At least people are using the search function and not creating new threads before researching.

What difference does it make if the thread is brand new or 10 years old...
There will always be someone looking for a little help with any one of the problems we all experience, that is the purpose of this site is it not.?.
