    Re: redline?

Unless you've done head work, u don't want to rev any higher than you normally do. The stock head cannot handle it....I'm running a BAT on a stock bottom end (for now) and I don't shift higher than 7krpms on a WOT run...I normally shift around 6.5k

I plan on doing some head work in the spring, and I'd like to raise my rev limit to 8k rpms

    *important*
Head work is just as important as a built bottom end if you are building a high HP BAT 1.8T

On the stock head, 7500 is safe... In a motor with upgraded springs 9000 is safe... Thats the limit on hydro lifter heads, if you go solid you can go to whatever you want, but its not worth it imo...

Keep in mind you can rev high with springs, but it takes a LOT of other headwork and supporting mods to make power up there

What he said. If you want some fancy head work, take a look into http://qedpower.com/. That's an idea of what a "fully built" head will cost you. ... all that for 8.5K+ rpms.

Once you're limited on velocity in the head, you must increase volume. Audi switched to the small port heads for a reason, velocity (at least that's my understanding)

    Re: redline?

I would save 9000-9250 for GOOD springs and upgraded exhaust valves ONLY. I would stick to low 8000's with stock exhaust valves or cheap "upgraded" springs. That's a lot of hammering on those sodium filled exhaust valves!

supertech spring / retainer kit or cat golds ftw.

I do too... That is the first thing I recommend people change in their heads. IMO it's best to replace the ticking time bombs first, other stuff later.

Well that turbo really doesn't make much power at anything over 7k, so taking it to 8500 is pretty pointless.

    ^^

Thats what I thought as well. Dont know why someone would want to rev that high.

I'd like another .3k rpm so I dont always shift AT the limiter (I hit it once in a while, especially in first). Or in an autox situation a lot of times you dont want to shift and want to just ride out that gear...

Yes it pulled to 8k but that doesn't mean its actually making more power after 6500 rpm where that turbo is going to hit peak hp, from there it drops like a rock.

You can rev a K03 to 7200 but it isn't making as much power as it does at 5k rpm.

Here is a dyno of the Elim kit. As you can see it peaks at 6k and is decreasing after that. Even at 7k rpm it would be making the same power as it does at 4500, at 7500 it would be equal to what it makes at 4k. Believe me taking it past 7k doesn't make the car faster.

BTW its called talking it out of the power band. If I did that while drag racing my ET's would end up much slower.

yeah, it was noticable that it didnt pull as fast at 7500 rpm.....but if he reved higher, when he shifts to the next gear wouldnt he start out higher in his powerband?

.....how do you think your car would do against a stage 2 or 3 s4?.....you have the negaro a4 2.0L with the carbonfiber hood and trunk on youtube right?

    lol

Mike's car is a dedicated track car. He sets records for not only A4's, but for the B5 platform in general. To compare his car to a stage 2 or stage 3 S4 is just child's play......lets get serious. He's not in it for youtube fame

I believe that last week he broke his 10.6 1/4 mile time at the track running a GT35 on a built 2.0 (just to name a few things)......i think you may need to read a lil more in the archives of this forum to learn about what these cars can really do. A nicely build 2.0 with a BAT (imo that stands for a GT30r and up), they'll hold up with and even beat stg 3 s4's on the road and the track (but shhhh, don't tell S4 owners....they get mad) Youtube doesn't tell the story. Research, my friend.

I know you mean well (not bashing), but definitely try to take advantage of ALL the information this sight has to offer every day, and in the archives which are accessed by using the search function [thumbup]

I'm not a fan of the color. Mikes car is like the chick you do want to tell everyone you had sex with but never forget because it was that good. Well lets just keep it at I'm not a fan of that color but the car is sick.

There isn't an S4 in this country that has ran below 10.7, the only one to do that was fully gutted to 2500 lbs with the driver in it. It didn't have a dash, door panels or window motors. Basically it was just a shell with a driver seat. Next fastest S4 in the country was the Eurocode that ran 10.8 with me in the driverseat.

When you can find a S4 in this country that can run 6.8 at 107 mph in the 1/8th mile, mid 1.5 60 ft times and 0-60 in less then 3 seconds let me know.

BTW most of my vids are on Streetfire.net. You might also want to check the A4 and S4 times on Dragtimes.com

i dont read about s4's as much, but your car is very impressive and im not going to doubt it . i've seen cars on dragtimes.com before, they're somewhat vague on their description of the car sometimes, but i'll look you up on streetfire.net
