Exclamation i could be a genius, or a COMPLETE moron!

i'm sitting in my networking class right now thinking of things to do to my car, and i came up with this idea when i was reading about people relocating their stock headlight spray due to a bigger FMIC.

anyone who is familiar with the previous to present model WRX STI knows that the (top mount) intercooler has a sprayer, right?

would it be practical, saying that you do not use your headlight spray to relocate them to spray your intercooler?

im anticipating the worst with this, so feel free to light me up if you dont like the idea, or if it wont work, i might have just gotten excited for a second that the bulb came on in my head for a brief second.

i dont think spraying the intercooler would drop the temp enough to make a difference. if your driving at speed, the water is just going to get pushed through it. i think i better alternative would be to get the c02 or nitrous intercooler sprayers. you would also need to have the headlights on to shoot it. just my 2 lincolns

I think it could make a difference.

I thought about it, but thats as far as I got.

A W/M kit would be far better.

I'm pretty sure those nozzles are heated.....

Thought about it a long time ago. The headlight washers won't run at the level you need them to but you can plumb a dedicated intercooler sprayer into that lower tap on the reservoir. The evaporative cooling could make a noticable difference. If the intercooler is hot enough to hinder performance than it is hot enough to evaporate some water which is a great way to exchange heat in a hurry.

After runs when Auto X I always spray down my intercooler. I think it could work.

as onemoremile stated, evaporative cooling can be very effective, as this is how sweat is designed to work. i think it would work even better by running methanol or another kind of alcohol due to the high volatility. the best solution would be a nitrous sprayer setup, but i would give you major props if you mounted the headlight washers horizontally and they popped out to spray the intercooler, then sprung back in.

that would be really cool, and if you had nozzles on them like those used in water/meth injection that atomized the water instead of just 2 narrow directed streams, it would cool the air entering the IC even more as it evaporates. but at that point you might as well be spraying it inside the intake piping like w/m does and you will see way more cooling capacity.
