    You may want to add a DIY on how to rebuild the tranny after it fails.

    Re: STaSIS 4:1 Diff writeup

    let me summarize for you:

    unbolt center driveshaft
    unbolt center diff housing
    take out your diff, put in stasis diff
    bolt it all back up
    put fluid back in

    quattro binding is what the car feels like when you make a sharp slow turn with a stasis or otherwise modded diff.. i dont know exactly how to describe . i think its something to do with the gears meshing together and one wheel is now turning at a different speed

    Easy way to feel the binding is crank your wheel in teh parking lot, and give it a little gas. You'll feel a shudder.

    This shudder you hearing is the inside wheels trying to catch up to the speed of teh outer wheels (while in sharp, low speed turn)

    Wierd.....my car used to make this sound when I first bought it, and now it has completely gone away

    Exactly. Kind of like keeping my Jeep in 4WD on dry pavement. It is very noticeable. The Audi Tech who mounted and balanced my new tires and did an alignment asked me if I tweaked the center diff. He noticed it just driving through the parking lot.

    I'm on the fence with keeping my 4:1 center diff when I go back to my 1.8T trans. I might sell it and stick with the OEM diff. Then again, I need to drive my car more to better evaluate the 'mod'.

    Re: STaSIS 4:1 Diff writeup

    Correct me if I'm wrong but it is just litterally a re-shimmed diff. There is no difference between Stasis and OEM RS4 right? Hence the reason there is huge core on the unit because they just refurbish them with the RS4 setup.

    Why would it ruin the tranny? Does the RS4 tranny fail in same way?

    With the stasis center diff I can take this one corner at 70 and get the rear end out while still having enough traction up front to keep me from spinning out and losing the rear end. If I entered this same corner at the same speed with the stock diff I'd surely have driven straight off the road. No way I'm taking it out. Understeer is almost non-existent now. Way too fun. Greg is a little harder on his trans than me.

    Guess I'll put some miles on the car at full boost first before I consider removing it. I haven't really driven the car at maximum potential since I did the mod. Been waiting on the software, as you know.
