Had a similar problem on a friends A6 wagon.
His problem turned out to be the dust shield for the brake rotor.
When he pulled the rotor off for a brake job he must have slightly bent the shield and it was rubbing on the inside face of the rotor. It wouldn't make noise all the time just after it was heated up from driving fast and would then make the same noise continually when it was hot, and as the brakes cooled down it became intermittant then would go away.
It took a long time to find that one.
Good idea, I didnt notice a splash shield in the rear and I just did the rear pads a few weeks ago. Ill have to look at the front, I havent played with the brakes in front yet so IDK how the shield would have been tweaked.
And no, I dont have intake. Jut a K&N drop in, but I can see how that whistle can be confused for it too.
