I'm most likely garaging the S4 for the winter for a RS4 clutch and I have the 1 and 2 syncros problem, I wanted to see if anyone has some step by step on pulling the tranny... THX!

    Re: Instuctions on tranny pull

i dont suggest doing this without a lift. tight spaces+heavy trans+ laying on the ground is just not a good idea imo

meh... did it in my 1 car garage at my apartment with no lift, just get a good tranny jack, a good floor jack (or 2) and some 3 or 6 ton jackstands and you'll be fine. harbor freight FTW. I paid like $125 or something like that for my tranny jack.

But, why would you do all of that work for an RS4 clutch? pay a little more and get the VAST stage 3 or at least the VAST stage 2. I have the VAST stage 3 on my daily driven S4 and I don't think it's too grabby in traffic or anything. And you can REALLY launch the car when you want to.

Anyway, talk to JHM, they'll hook you up. One of the best tranny pull instruction manuals is the Bentley.

use a stage 3 or any other turbo install write-up to pull out the motor and trans. then disconect them

2nd. And I've done it twice. Clutch once (VAST Kevlar) and trans rebuild the second time.

Like RedRocket said im pretty sure JHM has a video you can get from them that goes step by step on how to remove the tranny. They also sell the Vast Clutches, you should get a Stage 3 clutch in now, especially if you ever plan on going full Stage 3 in the future.

I think I'm square on the tools, I'm doing the pull to see about the syncros issue, save me a few grand to do a gear shift collar rather than a tranny overhaul at a tune shop... It's a good point on the clutch upgrade, I figure since I'm under there I might as well upgrade now before I go for my ECU upgrade.

do piggies while you got the tranny pulled. The DPs are kinda a bitch to get at.

It's pretty basic actually, just time consuming. Get the car up on stands, I did mine on my lift, so I commend you for even thinking about it on stands...Then basically unbolt that black metal brace bar that runs under the trans, disconnect the driveshaft, disconnect and remove the axles, you might even be able to just disconnect them, dont remember for sure. Unbolt and remove slave cylinder, as well as 2 electrical connectors, one on each side of the trans, and unbolt and remove the speed sensor from the bell housing. Unbolt and lower the rear half of the subframe, jack up tranny as far as you can and remove the 2 lower allen head bolts. Let it down, remove the rest of the bolts from the bell housing-engine. Get in the car, pull the shift boot off and remove 2 nuts, then 4 more underneath that cover. The whole shift assembly will drop down on top of the trans. Get under and support it with the tranny jack and remove the last of the bell housing to engine bolts, as well as the tranny mounts. jack it up enough to remove pressure and then wiggle it back, once clear lower it down. You might also find it easier to remove the downpipes first so you can get to the bell housing bolts easier. While you have them out, make them piggies if you haven't already. Someone correct me if I forgot anything.
