    Chipping your A4

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I have only heard about the pros from chipping your car.. all the positive effects on horsepower and performance and whatnot.

But what are the cons? Is there any reason to not chip your car? Will it void the warranty or is there something i'm missing?

It's all good; no bad news with chips. 2.0Ts come very underpowered and chips take them where they should have been from the start.

Definitely voids the warranty, but some dealers don;t bother you. It is best to check with them first or resort to doing your own work or bringing your car to a guy like me to get fixed

    Re: Chipping your A4

it voids the warranty if they find out your chippped...most chip companies have a way of turning back to stock if you goto dealer. I've had one for 3 1/2 years...went through a turbo (on my 1.8t) everything has been under warranty.

    Re: Chipping your A4

I know this is an overasked question but which one is the best? or how do i determine which one I would like more.

And also, does anyone know of a place in Arizona (preferably phoenix, tempe area) that does those 6 hour free flash trials so i can test it out?

I have time to burn today ;) The best chip is the one who's installer is closer to you. Check APR; GIAC and REVOs sites and see who has a dealer near you.

    Re: Chipping your A4

It actually goes a step further; they only void it if they REPORT the fact you chip it. I just went to the Service dept. this weekend, and was delighted to hear my service tech. ask me "So hey man, when are we gonna see some mods on this thing?" Music to my ears!!

You can just get it flashed back to stock, take it in and then play dumb. After you get it back, head straight to the chip dealer and re-flash it!

Question tho - do you need to flash to stock a few days/a week ahead of your service appointment or no? I've read in some threads you need to give the car time to adjust back to stock settings....not exactly sure what that involves, I've just read it.

No. Those people are referring to your ECU adjusting everything to run optimally - that can take 50 miles or so. Once its flashed back to stock (or switched to stock w/ APR) you're stock as far as the dealer can tell without running more extensive tests.

    Re: Chipping your A4

I just take it in for service flashed and no one asks anything. Now If I broke the engine or something I would call my APR dealer first to reflash it to stock before doing any claim.

OTOH most of the warranty claims are not engine related; power seat or wipers or something falling apart. All that stuff should be covered even if you have one of these http://www.max-boost.co.uk/max-boost.../big_turbo.jpg

    Re: Chipping your A4

nothing wil happen to your car that is warranty if you are chipped, the only things that could go are the diverter, which u replace with the forge and never worry about again, the pcv valve, which eurojet makes a fix for, and of course the fuel pump, seen it happen all too many times, it just bothers me, but if you stay ontop of your shit nothinig will go wrong
