    Rain X Sux

So i decided to try and take that crap off of my window today. I followed the directions from rain sux and bought some Bon Ami cleaner. Poured it in some water and used a terry cloth to clean the window. Now i have tiny scratches all over the passenger side of my windshield! DO NOT believe Rain Sux! Bon Ami will scratch your windshield.

So...anyone know how much an OEM windshield costs? I am going to get my insurance company to replace it. (and i got a rock chip on the highway this weekend!!!)

There at two different Bon Ami products: Cleaning Powder and Polishing Cleanser. One of 'em is for glass and, as you found out, the other isn't. This is an on-going source of frustration for a lot of people.

Actually, I did use the cleaning powder. It still scratched my window. I did plenty of research before attempting this. I am just trying to warn others before they attempt the same thing.

I use rain-x everytime I clean my car. It can cause the windshield to fog prematurely in some situations, but that's what the defroster is for.

Why remove it? It eventually just goes away after a month or so.

You're in Florida so your insurance company will take care of the widshield without a deductible so have them do it.

as far as rain-x... my windshield wipers hate the stuff. it doesn't slide over the glass smoothly but instead vibrates over it and makes an annoying noise. I haven't had a problem with other cars with rain-x.. just this one and since i like to keep the auto wipers on, i just don't use rain-x anymore

    Re: Rain X Sux

if you are doing it out of pocket... make sure you get OEM or non-OEM from a reputable shop... I've known people with warped windshields and kind of makes you feel drunker than you really are. OEM is usually not that much more so why not pay the extra 50 bucks too.

I can see how a powder can scratch up your windshield if the powder isn't soluble in water or didn't let the powder dissolve? sucks dude... should have just waited for the rain-x to come off on its own

hmm...I love Bon Ami and RainX.

But I'd never use bon ami on my windshield, and never use RainX in my bathroom... Sorry you had the bad experience.

    Re: Rain X Sux

Well, insurance is replacing the window. I had a rock chip near the rear view mirror. $0 deductible. It turns out he OEM glass is cheaper than the aftermarket. So i am getting a new OEM windshield!!!
