Audi S8 versus BMW 760li

I know this question might ruffle some feathers on this board but I am hoping to get as much information as possible about these two vehicles.

Which of these two vehicles is better in the following categories?

1> Handling

2> Acceleration

3> Speed (I assume the V12 on the 760li would give it the edge here)

5> Reliability

6> Quality of ride (noise, etc.)

7> More technologiclly advanced

Any other information on differences between these two vehicles would be great as well.


Does anyone know if therre is redesign in the near future for the S8? I read somewhere that a V12 diesel will be available for the A8 in the near future. What about for the S8?

but honestly, they are two very different $100k+ cars. you should drive them and compare for yourself.

Well, the 760li is a tad longer, thus making it feel more boat like in the turns while the S8 feels a bit sharper. I believe the weight is about the same. Also in terms of power delivery the V10 is a bit more aggressive where as the V12 in the BMW is smoother, kind of deceptively fast. Both cars ride quality are superb. I do prefer the MMI in the S8 and the looks of the interior as well. If noise is a major concern for you I'd look into the double payned security glass option as that filters more noise out than stock.

As far as technology, I'd say they are both quite advanced. I believe the 5.2 L in the S8 is a bit newer, but both engines are different, both cars are different, as the man stated above, drive them and see what you like more. They are BOTH complicated engines loaded with technology and both are expensive to maintain out of warranty.

I wouldn't give either the edge on reliability.

If your comparing the S8's V10 with the BMW's V12 , why not consider a W12 A8, no BMW can compare to that, im sorry. OH and the Audi looks much much better.

i would also say that the S8 will out handle and have a faster Acceleration over the bigger BMW, and IMO in the inside of an audi is built much better than a BMW, but hey we all have Audis , so your not going to get a good review or answer on the BMW here, but really, S8 or A8, is much better and i would never ever consider an BMW over an AUDI , i like the more sophisticated car (audi).......but thats just me.

The S8 has a smaller body and is more equipped for a sporty ride. The W12 is based on the A8L longer body frame and is loaded to the teeth with luxurious surfaces and technology (although the S8's interior is immaculate as well). Either way, both are much more of a driver's car than the 7 Series and the interiors are simply perfect. You just can't believe you're driving such a large vehicle and yet it's so responsive and quick. Awesome cars.

I saw the weights as S8=4288lb & 760 iL = 4,905 lb. Both were curb weight numbers.

The Alpina B7 is a tuner car, how is that a right match for stock?

The bimmer weighs more (4476) so that added 50 hp aint much, and so what if its a "tuner" car, is it not sold on the showroom floor? There better match ups than a boat 760 with another 500lbs and 7 inches..

i would have to agree with cerfus as the alpina is a better match for the S8. the 760 i would compare with the W12. either way, the A8's are the better looking car! we all know that!

Bullshit, for one thing the Alpina B7 starts at $115k vrs $93k for the S8 (and the A8/S8s come LOADED with standard features). I would love to see an MTM supercharged A8 + exhaust and chipped go up against an Alpina, that sounds a little more fair. And of course the 760 eater is the longer bodied A8L W12.

the audi is waaaayy more appealing, and ive read quality is much better with them than the bmw. from having known alot of the issues with the 7 series id much rather have an audi.. and the a8s are my favorites.

well apparently the new 7 will have xDRIVE with 30/70 rear bias so now thats out the window but id still take the more unique s8 in that it shows you know more about cars and arent just showing off like the average car buyer.

7 series blows. I worked for bmw and drove a fair share of them. 745, 750, 760...doesn't matter. The s8 is an ALL AROUND better car, and much more reliable as well.
