Anyone with a TIP and HATE HIS/HER car with the Giac 1 + ???

    Hi,

My car is a 04 tip 1.8t with giac Fx (giac flash with upgraded injectors). I do love that map but I am having a hard time controlling the car with the gas pedal.

Let say when I am driving on a service lane and I try to access the highway, here is what I don't like. While on the service, I am riding on 5th gear, as soon as I tip in the gas , the car build boost, realized it's not on the proper gear and downshift to 4th and immediately to 3rd, resulting in a crazy butt kick (like a train is hitting you), then, I let go the pedal, car goes back to 5th and if I tip in again, boooooost like hell. Make the car undriveable, in my opinion. I tried reprogram the tranny but not much result.

How do you guys deal with that ? Will a EBC like apexi AVC-R will be able to reduce boost for everyday drive and put max boost with a simple click for specific moments ?

    thanks

That's the problem with small turbos. Yes you can use an EBC to manipulate the boost so you have a low boost and high boost setting.

Yeah, I had similar issues with the APR 1+, and that's why I went back to stock ECU. APR/GIAC should never have said the tips would work right with the tuned ECUs only, without a tip chip, because they just don't. Both tuners have solutions for these problems, but ignore the issues instead. For example, the APR RS6 ECU upgrade, also includes a Tip Chip. to avoid the same type of problems, but APR never bothered to provide a tip chip for the A4 trans too. GIAC has a tip chip for the '02 B6, but then quit development, last I heard, they where working on a OBD port flashable tip chip solution, but that seams to have died on the vine. The higher cost for adding a tip chip is not a problem, so it's mystifying why the tuners refuse to serve the tip market. There is a lot of sales lost accordingly.

I had the same issue on my last car (Tip w/ APR K04). Downshifting was horrible, and I got the same jerky butt kick you describe. Driving in tip or sport mode wasn't much better, as even downshifting a single gear brought a lot of jerkiness. I'd be interested to hear someone's opinion who has a BT on tip...seems like there are a lot of people on here who have that setup....

x1000. I only drive tip, its much more fun controlling what gear you're in anyway. I think when you get the FX program, the auto doesnt really know what to do anymore cause the upgrade it isnt really too smooth at all. But in tip mode that doesnt matter and its all good. now it will only downshift at around 80 mph if i press the accelerator too much.
