ZiZa LED City Lights Quick DIY (w/ pics)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i know there have been a few posts around but i couldn't find one with pics. So I just snapped a few for those who like pics.

tools: mirror / screwdriver / needle nose / flash light

(right side) remove snorkel to access headlight housing

access housing (same on both sides)

locate burnt orange connector, it will be located in the upper corner. this is where i used a mirror and flash light to find the connector easier. very awkward space but once there out its cake.

with the needle nose snag the connector and pry off...takes a couple minutes, kind of a pain but it will come.

unplug bulb, plug in ZiZa Citylights, after plugged in test it, make sure it works. plug the new led into the housing and stuff the excess wires back into the housing. close the housing. replace snorkel...etc.

    no codes. lookin good.

the only issue people were having were them falling into the housing of the headlights. so if you are worried use some tape to hold them down.

i know this is an old post but did you guys who've installed these pull on the wires somewhat or on the orange connector because it's hard to get my fingers on the orange connector.

I have a 2007 A4 B7 with color display. It took me 30 mins from start to finish with this. I didn't end up using the mirror. You just kinda have to feel your way around, but eventually you know exactly where the lights are. I have no errors with the color display, also when you connect the zizas try some electrical tape to secure the connection to the wiring harness. I can field any further ?s you may have. Ups to Apatchin for getting the pics up

Can someone post a link to the correct ones on ECS? I think I finally found the right lights.

I just installed these in my B7 S4 and wanted to give everyone some pointers on the install. As mentioned this can be done very easily without removing the headlights, just takes a little feeling around. I found it to be much easier if you take out the high beam bulb (i think that's what it was, but you'll see it because its kind of in the way) when doing the install. Unfortunately this can only be done on the drivers side because on the passengers side you have the radiator hose in the way. You'd have to have some pretty strong and limber fingers to unlock it and then lock it back in to place when done. For some reason the passengers side city light was easier for me to grab than the drivers side. Also, I didn't need to use a mirror or pliers to grab the bulb housing either. Just trace the wires to the back of the housing a give it a wiggle and it should pop right out. No twisting is needed since they just lightly snap straight in/out.

Definitely connect and test them before inserting back into the headlight. I did one side tested it and then installed it in the headlight then moved onto the passengers side only to find the drivers one was no longer lit. I pulled it out and tested both while they were out and it turned out to be just a bad connection from when i put in back into the headlight. Also, I wrapped the ziza and factory connector with electrical tape because they didn't clip in and feel that secure.

Lastly, after i was sure both were working with the parking lights on I noticed that if I turned the headlights on while not running only one side would light after checking the connections again and then repeating the test with parking lights on followed by the headlights I had the same issue. I was now annoyed and about to pull them out when i thought to repeat the test with the car running. All was good while the car is running, both lit up when the parking and headlights were on. Turned the car off and tried it again and sure enough, only one side lights up when the headlights are on.

As for the error code, I haven't had one yet. Even when the car wasn't running and only one was lighting up...? I'm not sure why this is the case, but curious to know if they have experienced the same. Maybe someone from ECS can explain why this happens. I'm thinking it just has something to do with how the power is supplied when the car is off with the ignition on vs. when the car is running.

On the A4, there's nothing in the way of the city lights when removing or installing - very easy 5 minute job. I've had mine in for about 4 months and they've worked perfectly and look great with my 6000k HIDs.

Exactly the same experience for me, only Left side lights when car is off. Certainly check the connection and test, with the car running, before you pop them in. No error code, can't say the same thing for the rear LicencePlate LED's.

Update... I just went out and removed and reinstalled (in about 10 minutes this time) after reading about some of the led bulbs not being siliconed into the socket and falling into the headlight. I don't want to deal with that so I took the advice of ECS and wrapped some electrical tape around the led bulb and socket as well to make sure it didn't come out. Turned out mine were siliconed in place, but I figured it was extra protection if not just piece of mind knowing that it shouldn't fall out now. Advice - only put on enough tape to go around once or it will be a very tight fit getting the socket into the headlight.

I also wanted to add that after doing this both lit up even when the car was not started where as one one would before unless the car was running.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but can someone that has actually replaced the city light on their B7 A4 advise whether the wire/s leading the city bulb are silver wrapped or colored wires? The space is really tight in there, and I want to ensure I am following/pulling on the correct wires. Thanks.

Just replaced mine Saturday (still got the cut up hands to prove it). I am fairly sure the wires were colors. There were only two of them and you can rotate the bulb housing around endlessly, but to remove it you just pull it straight back. I actually found it easier to pull out the DRLs first and move them out of the way. Glad I got mine when I did. There were W5W bulbs in there that had already started to melt the housings.

Thanks so much! I wondered whether I needed to remove the DRLs to get at the city light; it was just too late last night and the engine still too hot for me to be comfortable doing that. I told my 11 year old daughter that I would need her small hands and slender fingers next weekend.

They are colored wires. And it is much easier to remove the DRLs to get to the city lights. Just did mine a few weeks ago, cost me $11
