Groaning Noise from Drive mechanism

I don't know if it's my CV shaft, or my wheel bearing.

Groaning noise occurs at low speeds when the car is in gear and under load. Only at low speeds though.
Oh forgot to mention: Car is FWD, so it occurs at the front of the car, ground level.

If I turn my wheel to a particular position (it's different everytime), but usually a little off center axis, quarter turn to half a turn to left or right, it will groan. If I perform the same task however, when the clutch is not engaged (while car is still rolling in the same direction, and wheel is turned exactly the way it is described above), then there is no groan.

do you hear the noise from the front end of the car or from the area of the transmission? also, do you hear it when you are in reverse?

it's coming from one of the drive components, just don't know which one.

And yes, front, Just left and right of the engine.
No, not from the transmission.

As long as the car is in gear and the mechanisms are under load, and at low speed, then yes it will groan.

Groans in reverse too.

hmmm. I remember having a sort of grinding noise back when i got my car. It seemed to be coming from the transmission. I too heard it at low speeds (only in 1st gear and reverse). It was intermittent. Cant remember if i kept hear the noise if the car was under load tho. Turned out it was some sort of bearing in the tranny. Thankfully it was all replaced under warranty. Seeing as how you hear it only in the front of the car, im guessing its something else then.

Just curious if you ever found out what your noise was? I'm trying to diagnose a new noise that I noticed last night and this sounds similar (although not exact).
