Dual projector headlights? Yes, we can!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Dibs on the design.... the high beam projector is just sitting inside a canibalized joey mod housing. I'm working out the details before using these two projectors as the high beams for the e-codes I just got. Then, I will be putting in LED's in the B8 pattern, joey-modding the e-codes, and hoping it turns out OK.

    So far:

Again, before someone rips them for being "off", the high beam projector is just laying in there. It is not pointed exactly as I will have it once completed. I'm not fuzor-ing that in until I do the install on the e-codes. And imperfections are because these aren't done or even the housings the completed ones will be done in.
And what you can't see in the pics, since the hood is closed, is that the front bumper is just resting in place, and most every hose and wire and anything I could pull of the block is completed. Tomorrow I'll get to service position and work a little more on the headlights.

Thanks. The advance disclaimer was just because we have some people who will stare at a pic for an hour just to find something wrong. Well, no ish on these 'cause they ain't done.
I'm more interested in the opinion of how it would look finished based on this preliminary throw-together. Thanks for the props.

Oh, and I did run the bulbs to see how the projector looks as a high beam. The mains are HID/Xenon, but I'll use a hyperwhite H7 for the highs. I was thinking HID, but the problem is that HID's take too long to fire up for a high beam. I did take out the metal beam blocker in the high beam projector housing, though. On the main low beam projector, that metal piece cuts off a lot of the light output, probably to keep it from being above a certain height and blinding oncoming drivers. But that beeyatch is gone in the high beam projector and it's like a Grizwald Christmas when that puppy fires up now.

props Lee they look amazing, what i would've done was rotated the projector 180 degrees so the part that sits flat could make it look somewhat OEM, but other than that i think it looks killer.

I like it. It's definitely an improvement on the factory mismatched pair of highbeam and lowbeam reflectors/projectors.

Thing is though, I cant see past the two chrome circles around the projector lens. I always though it looked pretty tacky.

something about the design is too drab, and "afterthought"-like.

Whereas our projector is more of a CONCAVE design, I really like more of a CONVEX design. Think, Frog eye vs. Satellite dish.

Yeah, I'm messing with that tomorrow a little bit. I put that flattened out part on the bottom and it looked OK from some angles, but on others, it looked too asymetrical; it's almost like the flat parts should both face the same way or else something doesn't look right. And i can't really turn the low beam so the flat part faces down on it, as I need that curved in part to form around the high beam portion.

Since my car will be up on blocks until maybe April, I'm in no rush. I'm gonna mess with it a little, take a day to step back, and then come back to it again over time until it flows the way I see it in my head.

I understand what you mean. But I gotta play the cards I was dealt.

On that curved-in flat portion on the high beam projector, I was thinking of taking out the turn signal housing from the old headlights, rotating it so the curve matches the high beam flattend part, and install it as a "fourth ring" in the e-code housing medial to the high beam. I'm going to get a general idea of how that will look tomorrow. I just don't know what I'd use it for. Maybe retrofit it for another H7 and have it come on as a second high beam. I don't know. We'll see.

    Kind of like this:

its good to get a better idea of how it could look though, i focused mainly on getting the projector mounted inside the housing and never got around to the cover since i was already angry after doing the work just to realize it wouldn't ever fit right. are you using a second set of A4 low beam projectors?

also, along this same note it might be worth mentioning that i found some VERY small projector fog lights (that were inside the headlight housing of some shitty old plymouth sedan) which im going to try and fit as some fogs since they're H3, much tinier than the stock fog housings, AND projectors. could be a good option if space is tight with intercooler pipes (not a problem for too many people on here) and if you're interested i can go back to the junkyard and find out what i ripped em off of.

    props for the work, lee.

u know what else u can do some dude on ebay sells projectors he made himself just the projector, u could cut the OE high beam reflector and add the projector in the center. Just putting it out there maybe u'll come up with something ingenious.

I knew that. I mean I have dibs on THIS design, lol, using the low beam projectors from my old set as the highs for me new e-code set. They fit with bulbs in. Back covers fit on and everything. It's tight, but it fits.

I really wish I had a second set of e-code round turn signal housings, because I'd put those on the center side of the high beam projector. Then it would be like an abstract "four rings". Then I could always make that second turn signal housing in to a second high beam or added fog light that helps friggen turn the night in to daylight.

Re: Dual projector headlights? Yes, we can!

I've expirimented with taking the turn signal of the old housings, flipping it, and moving it over medial to the high beam projector (closer to center of car). Its rounded contour follows the lines of that indented portion of the high beam projector perfectly and takes up the space that's left.
With that, I wired in an H7 socket from out of the old high beam. So, when the high beams come on, it adds two extra H7 bulbs.
    It is bright. Blinding bright.
But we'll see how the final design turns out.
And the beauty of it all is that it's got Valeo stamped everywhere and a nice big DOT sticker on it from the old US-Spec housings, lol.

Kind of like this pic below. But please note on this pic that the e-code turn signal, high beam projector housing, and old turn signal housing towards the center of the car are all just sitting inside there. As such, they are pointing every-which way. The center "old turn signal turned 2nd H7 high beam" won't sit up centered until it's fuzed in, so before anyone says it, of course it will be moved up, aligned, and centered in.
This is just in the "idea" stage right now. When everything is held in place it does have an abstract "four rings" look to it as the e-code turn signal does come up against the low bean project when in the right spot. I wish I had a second pair of e-code turn signal housings for the center 2nd high-beams..
I did have bulbs in everything, and even though it's all pointed every which way now.... it's really bright with two high beam bulbs. I think it will be sick when everything is lined up and fuzed in.

My 2004.5 APR Stage 3+ is SOLD
