    Question about warranty coverage

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have a quick Q about the factory warranty coverage. Here is the situation.

I took delivery of a new 2008 S4 back in Sept 29. It was delivered from MI to NY (Very hard to find a Sprint Blue with DSG and DTM). I did inspect the vehicle and signed the delivery form, except I failed to look under the vehicle. So last week I decided to take a look under and I noticed that the bottom plastic covering was cracked and chipped right under the driver side passenger door. Area affected was about 7"x4". From Sept 29 to last week, I never drove the car more than 5 miles (That is another story) so I know I didn't do that. Nothing major but I want to replace it.

Now the question is, will the warranty cover that or I already killed my chances after signing that delivery form without stating that the bottom was damaged?

    Thanks!

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

All you can do is ask the audi dealership, I mean if you only have 5 miles on the car they might fix it.

That plastic piece has to be relatively cheap.. I couldn't find the part number to gage the price, but genuinevwaudiparts.com is a cheap parts source. They don't have the 08 S4 in their drill down list (or I missed it), but the 07 should be the same part.

Just took a look at genuinevwaudiparts.com. What category would that part be in? Didn't find anything that has to do with the bottom.

I still need to make a service appointment for one of the to do list things so I'll ask them then.

    Thanks for the reply.

    EDIT:

    http://www.ecstuning.com/stage/edpd/...productID=7053

Will that fit on a S4 with the DTM PKG? It fits the 25th Anniversary ED, which has the same DTM PKG as the S4 DTM.

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

Nothing for an Audi is cheap. Your best bet would be to ask the selling dealer if they will "goodwill" the part to you. I have a hard time getting them to pay for anything under warranty. Example: paint on my convertible up/down button is definitley faded. Being in the industry, I know that the button must pass strict paint tests. However, my local dealer won't warranty it because it is a "wear item", but clearly it is a defect.

Long story short, you might have a difficult time getting your local dealer to warranty it because they didn't sell the car. Most the time if you bring the car back to the dealer that sold it, they might "goodwill" replace it for you. Good luck.

Maybe I misunderstood what you are referring to by "plastic bottom covering".. Can you give a better description.. You linked to a grille...

I thought you were referring to the the black plastic under engine plastic piece.

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

it wont be covered by warranty. that would be considered outside influence. its a physical break. the selling dealer should fix it for you on their own policy account. remember warranty covers "any defects in material or workmanship" i know this very well since i was a service writer for Audi for about 6 years.

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

nothing that is "damaged" can be claimed under any warranty. since you just bought the car you could ask that it be restored to like new condition by replacing the part.

woot woot! I wanna see more pics of your car man!

    DSG? Really?

the standard A4 grille is the DTM edition grille.

do not get the A4 S-line, S4, or RS4 grille, they will not fit.

Yeah I was wondering about DSG too. I highly doubt it =)

I think he may just think he has DSG because of his TIP paddles. Sorry bud, thats just tiptronic. The b8 s4 is getting DSG.

No still need to replace the bottom plastic part. (You're right I do need to take a pic) Im trying to blackout my S4 and the only thing left to do is the grill. But I might get Detailing Dynamics to spray paint it since applying the 3M Protection Film involves removing the bumper and the grill. Killing two birds with one stone. Plus spray paint is cheaper than replacing the whole grill.

channad, I did make up my mind after see some shots of your S4 DTM. I'll get some pics up after the to-do list is completed

Yeah you're right nimski, lol, been watching too much Top Gear and reading too much about flappy paddle gearboxes, TIP sorta merged with DSG in my mind.

The OP said it was under the passenger door. I am assuming he is referring to a sideskirt.

Guys I got pics uploaded. Much smaller than I felt, but still...

One possibly of damage: I told the dealer to install the Titanium PKG wheels and the jack probably did the damage. Maybe. Not really sure.

Whatever, I'll just ask the dealership here in NYC how much it will cost to replace.

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

Warranty wont cover that piece of plastic. Depends on the dealership if they will be willing to change that for you free of charge, but i doubt it. You're just gonna give yourself a headache if you try to battle it out. I say eat the cost in buying a new one, or patch that up with some fiberglass/resin kit. Good luck

    Re: Question about warranty coverage

That is not considered a warranty repair. That is wear and tear. Your only possibility is to get the dealership to repair it as part of the deal. You should get success with this economy on your side.
