What Do You Guys Think About The Magnaflow Mufflers?

I was looking on line at the magnaflow mufflers for the a3 3.2 system. I just want a muffler not a whole system do you think it would be a waste of money. How much hp gain should I expect with just a muffler?

hey i've got an A4 not an A3 but you won't notice any gains with just muffler install, just more sound. if you want performance you should either go full exhaust, or maybe swap out the cat for a test pipe

test pipe wont net as much hp as on a turbo setup. on normally aspirated vehicles, some backpressure is needed to provide a good amount of low end torque. on turbo cars, the turbo is the restriction so anything past that needs to be as free-flowing as possible. However, as stated above, muffler-only will make even less of a gain in hp and only make it louder with a possible highway drone. go full exhaust or just leave it alone imo. leave muffler-only exhaust systems to ricer hondas.

    right
    ive had 3 turbos now...
testpipes are incredibly beneficial, i cant speak for NA
i think of a dp and tp as a combo mod. i also wouldnt go into this looking for gains without adding software

what ive done on my last two 1.8ts was a dp, tp, resonator delete and aftermarket muffler (magnoflow in both cases)

for my 2.0t i did a full stainless turboback with highflow cat rather just to stay away form any state ref tickets

for you id recommend the resonator delete and can of your choice. 18-20" is a good modest note...anything smaller will be too loud in my opinion
your not gunna see gains...only sound

Re: What Do You Guys Think About The Magnaflow Mufflers?

I had a magnaflow muffler installed on my 3.2. For $350 I had it custom made on the spot and I got to choose my own stylish tips which is an option you dont get when you buy a kit. Warning, make sure they install the resonater piece or it will be super loud. I had just the muffler at first and it was loud but at the audi meets people love it. I had them add on the resonator piece and now it's fairly quite until you add some throttle. I love it now. It sounds like a throaty infinity g35. With my evolution motorsports intake there is a noticable power increase. Before my car was evenly matched with a 2 door g35, now it will pull on them no problem. Yaaaay.

I had a magnaflow muffler on a custom exhaust I had made for my old BMW 330xi. Deleted both resonators and it was really loud which I loved. However the drone was really bad, which my non-enthusiast friends/women/parents were not huge fans of. Cost was about $275+a 12pack of Pacifico.
