What SUV would you get and Why?

As the title states.

I think the new LR2 is sexy and has all of Land Rovers off road capabilities and lots of interior luxury. Pretty good engine and decent gas mileage for a Mid-Sized crossover. Overall i'd consider one of these. What about you?

depends on the budget. Right now, my other car is a Toyota 4runner. so my opinion on it will be biased. Ive had the Toyota since i bought it new back in 04. Although I have not driven over boulders with it, I have already forded floodwater at least 2ft deep with it and snowstorms havent really been a problem either. If on the more upscale side, because i need the room and want the luxury, I would get an Escalade (the 8 seater). I could consider a loaded Q7 but Im afraid the upkeep of it will bankrupt my retirement (combined with the s4's).

I was actually very close to getting the LR2 before getting my A4. At the last minute I decided I didn't need an SUV so i got the A4 and never looked back. If I could get any SUV though, i'd go for the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, those things are amazing.

I'm not sure how much i'm willing to spend, this is just a thought and not really a decision. If there had to be a range i'd say no more than 40k.

As far as the 8 seater escalade.... no. I see no practical use for that big of a vehicle, for me at least. I'm trying to stay in the midsize range.

The TB SS is starting to grow on me too...

It hardly has the "Land Rover off-road capabilities". Not to mention Land Rovers have terrible reliability even for European cars.



If you want a luxury car in the shape of a SUV go for it. To be more specific, what are you looking for in your next car?

I wasn't clear when i was mentioning it's capabilities. what i meant was the technology aspect, such as downhill assist/terrain response system/etc.

By no means am i looking for something that can climb a mountain, just something that can get the job done if needed. Body style is important, i can't stand a car/truck that's TOO big, or small for that matter. Newer technology packages are always appealing to me, and comfort (power, smoothness, ride) would be the selling point. Oh yeah, if it could manage a decent MPG number, that'd be the winner.

the LR2 is a volvo. its predecessor the freelander had all kinds of electrical gremlins too. its for people that believe smaller=more reliable.

If i was going to get an SUV, it would probably be a LR-3, and i would take it offloading on a regular basis.

Q7 is a great car. Lots of functionality and an awesome interior. V8 is sick but has average SUV mileage

Q5 is supposed to be real nice also

What size are you looking for? My gf has a RDX, although it is not the greatest looker, but I think its a pretty good SUV in terms of space and power. MPG tho isn't great.

I like my Infiniti QX56. Reliable as hell, and pretty decent gas mileage for a vehicle that large. Btw, it's also one of the quickest large SUV's straight from the factory. The only other one that runs as quick as it is the new Escalade but even it has a tough time sprinting away. 320 hp/390 pounds of torque, 10k pound towing capacity, seats 7 (I have the rear bucket seats). Pretty solid ride. The 26's are sort of a pain, but you gotta pay to play.

I was looking into some "quick" SUV's and noted the Trail Blazer SS (390 hp/ 395 tq) and the Jeep SRT-8 (420 hp/ 410 tq). Don't get me wrong, they are beasts, but i don't want to think about MPG.

And as for your infinity... it's too big for my taste. Thanks for the input though.

looking at more of the down scale and cheaper side, Jeep Grand Cherokee's are good mid sized SUV's. my uncle has an 01 with the straight 6, and its been great. Besides some regular maintenance, some seals on the T-case and brakes its been trouble free. Even towed a 6x12 box trailer with all my stuff up to skool over 400 miles. Its got good 4x4 and gas mileage is 19ish on the highway.

Just another view of an American SUV, that is more work orientated, not all these fancy Porsche and SS Suvs.

The Trailblazer SS's are fucking bad. They are sweet as hell, If I didn't need a full size to fit my tools for work in, I would have bought one for sure, if I could have found one around here.

I bought a 97 Yukon, cuz they're cheap, easy to work on, and reliable. Plus it has plenty of room for me to sleep in the back when I am stuck on a location for 3 or 4 days. I just really have no desire to spend a ton of money on an SUV when I don't need one for much other than work and hunting

It'd be nice to have a sick Cayanne S, but if I was personally going to drop that much money, it wouldn't be on an SUV.

My girlfriend has an '03 Grand Cherokee thats loaded, with the straight 6, and it is a very comfortable vehicle, and drives nice. When I took for work for a week I think I averaged 19 mpg, and that was busting snow on I-94 half the way back from ND in 4 wheel drive. On the way there I think I averaged 21/22 mpg. The heated seats don't fuck around in it either.

Infiniti FX35 is my choice. It's a great platform for a street queen type SUV since most SUV's are used on the street.

However, my '97 4Runner has been running strong since 1997 when my parents bought it new and sold it to me last year at 200k miles. It has over 221k miles now and still runs as strong as the day they bought it. It has great storage and off-road capability if you're into that kind of thing. Not to mention it'll average 21mpg city/highway mixed driving.

I do have my heart set on a 1st Gen FX35 though, which will probably be our next car after the wedding and we buy our next house.

Third, Hummer H1 (the only real hummer)

I like the Acura MDX, it has every possible option, from bluetooth, to voic recognition and rear tvs..300hp and reliable! You can get one for 35k used.
