Audi symphony vs B.andO.

I test drove a premium plus a4 last week and loved the car. My only real concern was I felt the stereo sounded terrible. I checked the eq. and did get it to sound a little better but it still sounded like people's voices were talking into paper cups. I do know that sirius heavily compresses its signals so I tried FM and felt it was no better. I didn't have any CD's with me though. My first question is does the system sound signifigantly better during CD or MP3 playback. Also are the speakers and amps the same with the concert and symphony? Finally, those with the Symphony, are you happy with it? Did it grow on you? I'd rather not spend the extra for the prestige, but I don't want to be annoyed every time I hear the stereo. Oh and is there a surround sound mode that might have been turned on that can be switched off?

I don't know but I love the B&O in my car. There are a couple of other goodies in the prestige package as well.

My sister has a M35x with the techonology package/bose sound system with speakers on the shoulders of the seat and i think my car has better audio.

listened to both the audi symphony and the B.&O. and Im getting the prestige because of it hahaha, the B&O has staging and sound quality that is better than my B6 with a full audio system that has multiple awards... you get the B.&O. and you wont be disapointed, and if you like audio like myself, get the B.&O. and add a sub and you will have a killer system!

The B&O > Symphony > Concert. If you think the Symphony sounds terrible then you'll definitely want to upgrade to the B&O system.

My B&O sounds awsome and has a lot of thump so I don't agree you need to add a sub, that's overkill and would ruin it in my opinion. Car shakes as it is when playing any source.

Sat, FM, CD, MP3 all sound equally pleasant in my opinion. Possibly something was wrong with the one quattro-it was listening to? Also in the Prestige it is also labelled as a syphony, except it has the 16 B&O speakers so not sure the stereo itself is any different...anyone know?

The B&O has a 505 watt amp with 14 speakers.

just cause it bumps doesnt mean it doesnt need a little more, I like some clean bass not the bass from a honda haha, but I like having a JL W6 or W7 in the trunk at all times haha

i have some crazy audiophile buddies who say my b&o is amazing. they come in my car with their iphones with high quality uncompressed music and i'm like wowow this sounds awesome. they're quite impressed too. so far, its the favorite thing about the car.

Well i went with a 2.0 prestige, I think the b&o alone was worth the upgrade. I can't wait to get it. White with nav. and beige interior with wood. Will be getting it tinted when it arrives next week.

I thought the BOSE in the A6 is great until I heard the B&O in the A4. It is easily the best sounding factory system that I heard, period.

I have B&O in both my A4 and R8 and in the A4 it sounds a lot better. I've also had the pleasure of driving a S8 with the B&O option (the one that has the rising audio lens tweeter) for a few days but somehow I still prefer the A4. That's how good it is.

Were you using audio DVD with 5.1? That'll put it through its paces. I can't remember what review I read, but you really have to fiddle with the thing and sit right to get the experience. The sys in the A8 could probably put most movie theatres to shame.

I also rememeber the idiotic test 5th gear did on the B&O sys in the A8. Using a standard CD which is a no no for these systems. But then, the BOSE in the older model couldn't use audio DVD anyway, so the difference would have been immediately noticeable. I'd love to blow out some windows and rock some Amadeus Mozart at a stop light hehe.

DVD Audio technically can be better then CD but usually isn't. Not to mention how many album releases are even available in DVD Audio?

While I am completely satisfied with the OEM stereo in my A4 I would have ordered the B&O system if it were avaialble as a stand alone option a few months ago.
