As much as I love my B6 I sometimes have to try very hard not to throw my fist through the window.
I just got finished towing my car back home after it broke down today. Here's the details. Any advice would be very appreciated.
On my way home, when I attempted to accelerate the car started to hesitate similar to the way it would act if I was running out of gas. When I pulled over into a parking lot it died. I started the car again and it started just fine. When I attempted to pull forward it died again. Each time getting worse until it eventually would not start. Now it will turn over but not fully start. No warning lights, no indication of the immobilizer being activated.
For the last month or so I have noticed an odd sound. Unfortunately I have not had the money to look into it. The sound is hard to explain. It's kind of a very faint humming sound that seems to come fromt he back right of the car near the rear wheel. It is loudest when starting in the morning when it's cold or when you've driven for quite a while. At first I thought it might be an exhaust leak but not sure because the sound does not change when you rev the car. It doesn't go away or get louder. It doesn't happen all the time but it does still happen whether the car is moving or parked.
A friend of mine suggested it might be the fuel pump which seems to fit the symptoms. I'm going to look into this when I get off work but in the meantime any other suggestions or even just assurances that it is the fuel pump would be greatly appreciated.
