Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Im buying a APR stage3 turbo kit for a guy that has a 2000 a4. I have a 2001 i know everything will fit. the only thing i am not sure of is if the ECU will be the same? can i just swap the ECU?

If not i have a unitronic tune on my ECU now boost 20psi. will this be safe to drive on? Thanks in advance for the help!

No, the ECUs are not compatable. You have an M or CH box ECU specific for the AWM and the ATW runs with a different ECU.

The ECU doesn't matter since the software is programmed on a proprietary chip...call APR to see how much the flash will cost

This is the exact point that stopped me from buying a used APR kit.
They wanted $1500 to flash the ECU for my 018Q ECU on my '00.

If that is the case then the kit would not be worth it to me.

Which means they actual hurt the resale value of their kits.

Re: APR turbo kit 2000 to 2001

I was going to suggest he could source out a tuned ATW ECU and get whatever injectors the tune calls for. Only other thing that may need changing is a MAF. That can be sourced for $750 or so compared to $1500. APR I am assuming has a reliable kit due to thier parts. And the tune I am more than sure is geared to a precision for thier products. But there is always an alternate route.

I don't expect them to re-flash the ECU for free but $1500 ridiculous. Shows what kind of business ethics they have. They've already made money from the original buyer and a flash doesn't take more then a few minutes.

As previously stated by dan4g63 "I have no problem with companies making money"
However, my point may be more like buyer beware.
Buy the used APR kit with the right ECU or call APR to see how much the programming is going to cost.
When I was trying to buy it used low mileage kit for $3k and then I would have to buy an ECU for it separately!? Not worth it. THe seller offered to go down $200 on his pricing... I still have the MTM setup.

Re: APR turbo kit 2000 to 2001

A kit is only parts, yet all the same. The only difference is name brand, which means made of different construction design, durability, etc. I would assume APR TIP, APR custom intake (probably the Carbino), APR exhaust manifold (which they do not sell separately), APR HFC (which they do not sell separately), oil and coolant lines are universal, APR hardware, etc. I am just saying that if they do not sell those parts separately, is more due to the fact of reliable parts. A tune is a tune (but make sure to go with a reputable tuner). I would still say he could get the kit, and go maybe Unitronics on the tune and have absolutely no issues, as long as the tune is good. It would just be a GT28rs tuned ECU from a different company with an APR kit.

The APR kit is pricey to begin with. For that money, one could peice together a GT2871r kit with brand new peices. Or even a GT30r if they do engine work themselves. APR is known for thier reliability. It is just that the cost of that safety as a consumer for reliability does not come cheap.
