    Aux Line Input

so i've been searching around a bit for a line-into my stereo. it's the stock 6cd in dash unit, the symphony ii.

basically i'm just looking for an audio input. i have a nokia n96, not an ipod so i just need a 3.5mm stereo input. from what i've been seeing, the blitsafe is a good bet. i found this one:

    http://blitzsafe.com/catalog/audi/au...1/prod_20.html

i understand that i will require an rca to 3.5mm converter. i'm basically asking if there's any othe way to get the same effect. i'm not worry about the price, just want something that is decent quality.

i tried the whole tape converter, fm transmitter. i'm trying to get something that doesn't static or add noise.

also, if i get that unit, what kind of wiring am i looking to do? is it plug and play? if it isn't, is there any solution out there that is plug and play?

    Re: Aux Line Input

i used to have the blitzsafe, it works good. I had this one however:

    http://blitzsafe.com/catalog/audi/au...b/prod_31.html

and then just plug in one of these and you're set

    http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

it's plug and and play, plugs into your CD changer

sweet, seems easy to use. what's the difference between the one i linked and the one you linked? i understand the plug and play that works with yours, but where does the one i linked plug into?

also, where would i ground the one you linked?

beats me. the one i linked to definitely works with symphony II. not sure what the other works with.

there is a screw on the back of the sym II that i used and had no problems. that's probably not the most proper ground, but whatever works. alternatively you could run a line to the fuse panel area, there is proper ground there. i couldn't be bothered.

I may be wrong but I thought the AS button stands for auto-scan which scans for the radio stations with the strongest signals and assign them to the presets. It's in the manual but don't have it with me now at work

    Re: Aux Line Input

where did you bring the line in from? i was thinking about bringing it in from the glove compartment, but i couldn't decide. i was planning on getting the proclip angled mount that goes to the right of the stereo.

    Re: Aux Line Input

I bought one online for about $65. Same connectivity, I can't remember the name of the manufacturer though and I don't have radio keys at the moment to check. I think it was from a website that sells a lot of VW stuff so google might find it for you. This was also a few years ago so prices may have gone up, or it may not be available.

    Re: Aux Line Input

i'd recommend the DICE audi-r http://www.amazon.com/i-Audi-r-Integ...3943739&sr=1-1. This plugs into your oem cables and alows your cd changer to stay connected, plus comes with ipod connector and aux 3.5mm input. i know you said you don't have an ipod, but this way you keep your options open

i believe the biltzsafe one that scorneil recommended is almost exactly like the dice one you linked. but at almost $50 more for an ipod connecter, i dont think it's gonna work for me.

thanks for the rec though, i have a friend who this would be perfect for.

    Re: Aux Line Input

just installed mine. installation was a breeze. took about 20 minutes. 1 minute to actually plug everything in, then 16 minutes to figure somewhere to ground it (which ended up being on a metal part of the radio itself because everything is plastic). then another 3 minutes to figure out how to take the keys out.

so if i was smart, i think it could've taken me a total of 5 minutes. but, i am what i am. works great and i love it.

^^ that's it. the radio displays something like:

    CDC1 Track 99 00:00

but everything else is still kept functional. i never had a rear cd changer, do this worked out for me.
