    Got my tires rotated today.....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
and now when I drive it's very NOISY, and it annoys the hell outta me.

Before I got them rotated, I had no problems and they were quiet.

It's quite weird to me though because when I hit 80-up (even past 100) on the freeway, it's quiet again, but then right when I go under 80 it gets REALLY loud, so it's like I have to speed now cuz I can't stand the road noise.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Alignment? I have noooo idea.

There should be an arrow on the sidewall.

Make sure it's pointing in the direction of travel (nose of the car).

If it's not, then that's probably why you're hearing the noises.

Many of the tire shops fail to even look at the sidewall and will rotate your tires in a x formation, rather than a front-rear rotation.

If you have directional tires, the proper way to rotate is front to rear, rear to front.

Double check every tire. That may be it. I'm 99% positive.

Re: Got my tires rotated today.....

^That was the first thing I checked before leaving the place and they were correct. I've had that happen before on my other car, so I make sure it's correct everytime I get my tires rotated now.

That was a good idea to what the problem might have been though...thx.

    Anyone else?

Re: Got my tires rotated today.....

Check the tread wear on the tires... especially around the outer edge. If they are wearing down correctly, everything should be smooth. If the outer blocks of tread appear to be wavy, then that's the cause of the noise. The uneven wear could be due to multiple reasons: under/over tire inflation, alignment, tire rotation, etc. Since you have been rotating the tires, I think that can be removed from the list.

Re: Got my tires rotated today.....

I agree could be tread wear. When I moved my directional tires front to back, I experienced some new road noise. But I knew my alignment was slightly off and my tread was not totally even. The tires were not expensive or that great so I didn't really care to pay for another alignment to get maybe another 5-10k miles out of them.

Re: Got my tires rotated today.....

If your tires aren't wearing evenly and you rotate them the contact patch changes which can cause added road noise until the tires wear a little more. The noise shouldn't be that bad unless the tires are really unevenly worn.

Re: Got my tires rotated today.....

Tires could be cupped. Might have to give it a little bit to wear into a pattern, but the tires could be past the point of no return.

I have some Yoko Avid H4s on stock rims that are cupped as hell and noisy as sh*t. Tires have plenty of tread on them. Gonna suck it up until they go bald. Never again go with the Yoko's though.

Check pressures and for feathering. Feathering can make the LOUD as hell.
