    hotchkis sway bar question!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So there is a group buy for h-sport bars right now and I am torn between the s4 kit and the rs4 kit.

    RS4:
    35mm front
    29mm adjustable rear

    S4:
    35mm front
    24mm adjustable rear

what do you guys think would be better. I am afraid the 29mm might be too much and cause a lot of oversteer. Anyone have any experience with this?
btw my car has eibach springs with bilstein sport shocks.

    Input please

I think the RS4s are adjustable so, i doesn't have to have full stiffness all the time.

^^exactly, we have such heavy understeer a bar twice that would barely cause us to oversteer.

^^he's got an S4 so diff story, but the issue with the hotchkis front is it will cause more understeer, this is why people only get rear.

i was under the impression that the kit with both the front and rear was far better than just the rear for h-sport.

getting the rear only works out well when you are looking into the oem rs4 rear sway since i believe they use the same front.

it just keeps the car balanced in terms of stiffness.

I have the S4 because at the time the RS4 wasn't out yet. I've tried it with and without the kit's front bar.
The car is more stable with less roll with the H-Sport front. Yes, the understeer is a tad greater. But the car is more predictable.
Running the H-Sport rear with OE front, the trade off between gaining oversteer and decreasing overall stability and roll wasn't worth it.
It just didn't feel as "balanced". That's the best way I could describe it. While I'd love to swing the back end out more, with the OE front, it seemed like the car handled differently at different speeds and off-cambers and such. With the whole kit, it's always the same regardless, and I like that reassurance.
As such, I've switched back to the full front/rear kit and I think it handles much better.
As mentioned, it takes a hell of lot more than that to get rid of our understeer. I'll take the stability of the entire kit, knowing that I'm not going to decrease the understeer much by using OE front anyhow.

Oh, yeah. But remember, your suspension has a lot to do with this, too.
Understeer can partially occur when your front end is diving from braking or cornering, as well. All that weight being shoved to that outside front corner is going to cause understeer. If you take away some of this with a better bar and good suspension, the car is more "flat" through a turn. And while the tendency is still to understeer, it isn't as bad as stock.
Plus, I got used to it anyhow and learned to drive differently. When I want to hit the brakes, I instead floor it. Quattro FTW.
