    Cool AMS's gt42rs+little friend, motor

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
very outside the box on this one. unforturnately they were unable to tune it in time for the Castrol Top Shop Challenge they built the motor for.

they ended up going with a single 42rs and still won the competition. they sadly beat out 034/eurotuner for which i was really rooting for

but must say, quite amazing. i would have gone a slight bit of a different way and led the smaller turbo's charge pipe into the IM instead of the 42rs's inlet.

but hey, this is AMS im talking about. what do i know

and what they ended up going with to win the competition

made 1035hp on the engine dyno

    Re: AMS's gt42rs+little friend, motor

how does that twin turbo setup work. i see the manifold running into the big turbo. but where does the small turbo get the exhaust from. and wouldnt the pressurized air from the small turbo just blow out the filter? is there a one way valve? am i missing something?

    Re: AMS's gt42rs+little friend, motor

ok i now see the exhaust inlet for the small turbo, but i still dont get why they send the pressurized air to the point before the big turbo.

    Re: AMS's gt42rs+little friend, motor

im not sure either. some type of motorized block off plate is what i assume that housing is on the inlet pipe for the 42rs.

this is also why i would have just gone with your normal sequential twin turbo setup like the RX7 and Supra guys do. have both compressor outlets flow right into the intake manifold. it would certainly be easier from a hardware prespective. but either way tuning will be a nightmare. but nothing AMS can't handle.

keeping my eyes peeled to see if they finish this concept here in the future

its like a classic jdm twin turbo setup.. the small turbo is used for low-range RPMs while the larger one takes it all the way to redline. it almost looks like the smaller turbo is helping the larger one spool. lol. but even with the setup, i dont know how in the world that car is going to spool that massive turbo.

owned no. driven a lot, yes.

my moms Maxima(02) and my brothers titan are very torqey. they both light up the tires very easy from a stop and sometimes slow roll. but after that, it's 20mph...30....40.......50.........60......wait.... 70..........etc.

it's just kinda an illusion on how fast it is. throws you back into your seat, but doesn't keep you there. my little 1.8t keeps you there..

oh, and same thing with my dads souped-up F350 and that thing has like 700 ft lbs....

massive turbo? for an evo? you must be new to the Evo world.

they made 800hp by 7000rpms. and 1035 at 9500rpms.. could have easily been taken farther and higher but they were limited to only 100 octane fuel and low boost (40-45psi rather than 55+ on c16)

same exact turbo 034 did on their 2.3L I5 motor and the 2.0l 4g63 had a lower boost threshold by about 500rpms.. but used an equal length twin scroll manifold where as 034 didn't.

the results are in the new eurotuner. 034 had some issues on dyno day though. might have placed better than third if all went well..

did you read the line about my dads F350?

and torque is a relative term. as is horsepower.

it was a scenario of which the car has much more torque than horsepower. and what the care feels like.

but i guess it's over your head.

oh, and go drive a 02+ maxima. you'd be suprised

my evo is pretty torquey. Bolt ons, stock cams, and pump gas.

made around 350whp/350wtq. at the weight of sub 3000 it moves out. I guess you need some torque to light up these 255s.

    that's actually false.

torque is what keeps you at that constant 5mph in the pit area's.

hp is when you are flying at 7k+ rpms on the track reaching for redline.

think about it. a racecars's(or any internal combustion) motor makes peak tq between 2000 and 5000rpms depending on motor and components. when do you ever see a racecar on the track at below 5000rpms?

    answer, never

on the launches with the evo i have to backpeddle off the throttle to reduce spin. I had a s4 with xr chip running vp103, dps, catback, no cats, custom intake, ported and polished intake mani and heads, rs4 clutch and about 200 lbs in weight reduction. It didnt spin them close to the evo out of the whole.

Who knows, evo is hundreds of pounds lighter than S4 though. I could leave like 20' of black marks on the road with my car. Now it is easier but I have a descent amount more power too.
