Details on ESP?

Between the last few days of pouring rain and my low tread summer tires Ive had some fun playing with the ESP on and off. Is it in my head or does it feel like there is some "correction" taking place in the car even when the ESP light isnt flashing?

Is there somewhere with details on exactly how esp functions in our cars?

Thanks, still nothing definitive about what all is bein "adjusted" when the light doesnt flash vs flash.
