    Update: Headlight Adjustment Tabs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After taking the headlight off, I noticed right away one of the tracks on the white adjusting wheel broke off, meaning everytime I would turn the adjusting screw to turn it it would pop out of track if I didn't carry enough momentum turning it. Anyways I managed to pop it back on track and for the most part it stay on track if I carry the same momentum while turning it.

Also, you can override this by getting some small pliers and turning the white wheel manually.

    Thanks,
    Nick

    Original Story:
Last Night I went out to aim my headlights. After tinkering around with the driver's side, I proceeded to the right headlight.

I started to adjust the lateral adjustment screw and after I noticed that the adjustment screw was turning, but the white aiming wheel did not.

Today, I inspected it in daylight and noticed that the fins on the adjustment screw that turn the wheel were stripped. Is there a way I can pop the adjusting screw out and replace it so I can turn the wheel...

Here's a pic from a fellower AZer: Can the object in red be swapped out? That's the only thing stopping me from adjusting the white wheel.

    Re: Headlight ? w/ picture...please help

damn I guess know1 has an answer...

I guess tomorrow I'll just take the headlight off and inspect if I can replace it or rig it for it to work. Seems like the adjusting screw acts as a worm gear to turn the actual adjusting wheel.

If not, I'll just get some ebay ecode reps

There is no way to disassemble the adjusters, to do so, requires destroying some of the adjuster parts.

From what I understand, doesn't the white wheel actually move the lense? All the adjuster screw does is moves the white wheel so that it can adjust...I hear what you are saying, but there's nothing wrong with the actual adjusting mechanism, just screw that spins got stripped, so therefore the white wheel can't move if the adjuster screw doesn't do its job.

Yes, I understand your problem, You can drill out the small stripped bevel gear that normally drives the adjuster screw, but then slots will need to be cut into the larger white cap on the adjuster screw body, to turn the adjuster assembly. The problem with that is there is very litte clearance behind the adjusters with the housings installed, so it will be difficult to access the adjuster for beam adjustement.
Remember, when adjusting the verticle beam elevation, BOTH adjusters are turned equally, for lateral beam position, only the outer adjuster is turned.
