    Should Charlie go with a 3071R or 3076R at 5K-10K ft

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Charlie wants it to spool up at a somewhat normal rate. He is going to lose hundreds of rpms in spool up when he takes his car to the mountains to ride (10K ft). He is going 2.0L so that will help for sure. The SPA mani he is going to use does not have a runner collector (like apr log mani does.. cyl 1&4, 2&3). Help him put his mind at ease I think I know what the consensus will be around here Charlie ;)

    I tried to do a simple poll but fvcked it up

    They spool the same at sea level so they should spool the same up there, 3076R all the way!

    3076 will probably deal with the elevation changes a bit better, plus the larger AR will relieve a bit of drive pressure ensuring the turbo is running efficiently. I still say Bullseye s256....but Jordan knows I am a big fan of that one...hehehe

    3076R is the minimum I would suggest. It'll be a good guinea pig for you, Jordan.

    I thought he was going with a tube manifold, custom fuel system, custom etc? I thought this was going to be huge. Did plans change once he moved out of Cali?

    ahahah yea, this elevation really fucks with everything. So 3076 it is... .63ar

    and i will be doing the 2.0ltr with a built AEB head w/ cat cams. going to take a bit to get all of it together ( like 2 months) but im already purchasing the shiet for it.

    That is kind of the best part, right?

    You can learn from what you did in the past and do things a tad different this time (if you chose too).

    Its a fun process for sure. Be glad you didnt have to go block shopping too....hehe!

    GT series turbos are nice. One reason Autobahn and I decided to go with Bullseye was the extended tip technology in the turbo and our elevation. The compressor wheel design ensured we would quickly get into the efficiency range and that up here the turbo wouldn't run out of steam as we got into the higher RPM ranges. Currently I run 25 PSI holding the same (or on hot days it might fade to 23ish)...that is an IAT problem due to my intercooling however...the turbo honestly could care less, and is fully capable of even holding 30psi + all the way to my 8k redline. on my current setup with a .55 AR I am up to max PSI by 4k and hold it through the end...a nice 4k run at full power. On my first dyno pull on this setup, I had a nice broad and flat HP curve from about 4500 on the dyno to redline...and the new tune had all of 4 hrs of development into it. I have yet to get back to the dyno since then (3 weeks ago) however LOTS of changes to the tune have yielded a far better and smoother running engine...and the turbo is happy as well.

    Just something to consider turbo-wise. I know Garrett turbos are all the rage on this place...but there are other options out there that in my opinion do better in a mid-sized turbo...especially up here where the air is thin and turbos struggle a LOT.

    I'd be waiting if I were him. No way I'd personally go to a 3076R up here if I know that there is a quick spooling twin scroll setup coming in the near future

    Here are some maps to add to this.

    Up at your elevation here is what your looking at for PR IIRC

    20psi = 2.8 PR
    25psi = 3.2 PR
    30psi = 3.6 PR

    got it through my shop, Autobahn Premier Service here in Denver. Great guys. Also a retailer of Bullseye Power turbos. I am using the SPA top mount manifold.

    I know you are a DIYer, but if you want some local support, the shop is an excellent resource. They can certainly help with any ordering, machining, etc. you may want or need. They built my motor from top to bottom.

    I know you are a DIYer, but if you want some local support, the shop is an excellent resource. They can certainly help with any ordering, machining, etc. you may want or need. They built my motor from top to bottom.
    well in the future if you want to save money, bring it to me and I can help you build it for free :)

    the shop owners are great friends of mine and I like giving them the support. Also, in many ways, I used the opportunity to learn more than I had ever known...especially about the internals of the car...and now much more about tuning and related systems. I am a see first, do next kind of person...and having never tinkered around inside an engine to that extent so I used the experience to learn.

    I had the e85 game dialed in last year on k04, but the bar has been set a bit higher running the current setup and e85. It a fun fuel, and currently at $1.95 for 105 oct fuel....who can argue!!!

    Nice to have you out here in CO. Perhaps with you here people will realize that Jordan and I are not on crack when we say there is a HUGE difference all the way up here at 5500+ feet then most people at sea-level realize!

    side note: I have read you are in the cherry creek area a bit. Keep ur eyes out for me...I have a condo right by the mall off of university! (I spend a lot of time in boulder with the GF but am in Denver almost every day for work).

    Cheers!

    Go 2.2L 3076r .63, 3651s, ported intake side but only gasket matched and polished exh. side, and keep the stock rev. limit.
