I have a 2001 A4 Quattro and ready to upgrade to a chip. I heard the Giac X is the most aggressive. But I cant find too much information on it. Can anyone educate me?

Free edumahkation. Remember that local support is important if any problems arise.

There's also this old comparison of GIAC-X and Dahlback.

    Re: Giac X

The good thing about GIAC is that thier prices dropped $150 for thier stock tunes . A couple months ago and prior to, people had to pay $500. With that being said, GIAC def seems a good route to go. And another route is to find people parting thier flashed ECU's for maybe $450, so you can still keep your stock ECU when problems arise. I wish I had one right now.

    Re: Giac X

    Rule of thumb:

If you have a B5, go with either APR or GIAC (more favored). If you have an 01, go with GIAC or Dahlback (more favored). If you plan on going bigger than a GT2871r, go Unitronic or CTapp (route I took).

    Fixed.

I <3 my Unitronic, and I will not convert. I currently work for a GIAC dealer as well, in my defense I bought my "tune" prior to my current employment.

GIAC doesn't readily support BT/BAT tunes on anything <01.5 IIRC

EDIT: GIAC is considerably cheaper than Uni, but Uni pro-rates your upgrades. Thus making the next tune for K04, GTRS, GT28, etc. cheaper.

I have unitronic stage 2 and I must say I am happy with it. I drove a friend car with giac and my unitronic pulls stronger up stairs, trust me run unitronic stage 2 so when you are ready you can replace your cat with a cat deleted pipe and you will have no problem with your computer light coming on, plus what ever up grades you might need in the future unitronic has a program for it.

    Re: Giac X

I just got speedtuning's stage 2 software which spikes 20ish and holds 18. i ran my buddy with it to see if the 200 i spent was a waste or not. he has a 99.5 with giac, exhaust and front mount.. i have ST chip, exhaust and thats it.. we were neck and neck, in the long wrong i'd start to pull.

def a viable option to look at going if you dont see the need to go broke for a tune.

Did you not just read the thread?! However Unitronic is the best performance wise if you ask me and others agree.

I read the thread.. I like both and my friend says Giac is the best and most aggressive tune but I am leaning towards Uni and was wondering if anyone had anyy different thoughts

    Re: Giac X

Using two DIFFERENT cars to compare chips is not a very good comparison. Anyone that has been around these cars for awhile knows there's a crap load of things that can affect your cars performance without you even knowing it. Examples being tiny vacuum/boost leaks, malfunctioning sensors, clogged hoses, etc...

Honestly, i would go with a chip that you can buy locally if there is a knowledgeable chip dealer around. so you can have someone to go to if anything ever goes wrong and you don't have to deal with the hassle of sending your ecu out. In the end, there is only so much power to be squeezed out of the tiny k03. the difference between chips is usually minimal

Here is my APR Chip on my 01, At the time I had the same stuff as sexyboy:

    borla exhaust
    Balies dv
    Carbonio Intake
    stock smic

161awhp 191awhp and it was warm day (this place was not a/ced)

I found the chip pull's hard and made the car pretty quick. As fast as a stock S4.

If your intrested im selling my Apr ECU from my 01 with three programs + ECU

We offer trade-in as well. If you pay $495.00 for a k03 file and want to upgrade to K04 or big turbo, you receive that $495.00 as trade-in toward the new software.

Our big turbo files for the 2001 are boost control enabled as well. As usual, they carry options for race mode, valet and kill (security mode) switchable via laptop (for non-CAN vehicles) or handheld switcher.

MSRP on nDBW 1.8T software is $300.00. MSRP on DBW vehicles are and always been $495.00 for the basic stock turbo software. You have to remember that despite them both being 1.8Ts, the ECUs are different. This means that they carry different development costs.

    Re: Giac X

I decided on Uni and am pretty happy I did. Just a bummer about a week after being chipped, my clutch decided to start slipping hard. Here's my dyno sheet. It was 162hp/205tq or so on a Dynomite, which reads a good amount lower than a Dynojet or so I've been told, similar to a Mustang. In comparison, a K04 PC-16 AWD pulled 170/220 and a stage 3 S4 pulled 290/290.

Mods were test pipe, carbonio v2, apr cat back.
