Re: help! water leaking into rear headliner!

My car does the same thing after a car wash......the rear sunroof drain tubes are clogged.

You need to find the tube(s) were it drains from (which are near the rear bumper....which I think you have to remove), and the blow compressed air up through the tube....

Re: help! water leaking into rear headliner!

thanks. how do i go about getting to the tubes? water drains fine coming from the rear window. are there different tube drains for the sunroof and the rear window?

Re: help! water leaking into rear headliner!

There is a drain tube at EACH corner of the sunroof.

2 at the front (running down each A-pillar)
2 at rear (running down each C-Pillar)

    So that is 4 total.

I think you have to remove the rear bumper and from there you will see a rubber brown hose and use compressed air

Take a look at this thread.....

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=Sunroof+drain

I fixed mine by cleaning the sunroof drain lines and by replacing the gasket around the sunroof.

open your doors, poor water down your drains that are in the sunroof corners. if water comes out fast and easy by your door hinges (B6) then you shouldnt have a clog problem.

Is it possible to locate the rear drain tubes via the sunroof??
The fronts are quite easy to find..but the backs are another story..

It would probably be much easier to just pull the rear wheel liner and go at it from the other end. There are only a handful of screws retaining the liner and it comes out easily. Just look for the drain tube at the base of the "C" pillar. It was the B5 that required pulling the rear bumper to get to the rear drains.

Thread jack, and while your at it remove your doorblades and clean and inspect, doesnt matter if their stock or s4 or usp DO IT, could save a corrosion issue before it starts.

be carefull using compressed air...it might pop the hose off from the nipple. I'm not sure how the hose is attached on the A4 but on my RX-7 its just a simple spring clamp.

Re: help! water leaking into rear headliner! (Pics Added)

    Update:
So over the weekend we got a considerable amount of rain...and wouldn't ya know it, another F'ing giant water stain.
I am sick to death of cleaning these nasty ass water marks!

So.. after drying and repeatedly cleaning the new & old water spots I pulled the rear passenger wheel liner to look for the illusive rear sunroof drain tube.
    No Luck!
Upon inspecting I Do Not see the rear drain tube below the C pillar.

    Can anyone offer another suggestion?
Does the rear bumper in fact have to come off to locate and clean these tubes??

Old guy just told you to remove the Rear wheel liner.

Have you tried that? The c pillar sits on top of the rear wheel. it would make sense that it drains out right there.

So why don't you take a look at that first.

In that case, I better get my eyes checked.

I'm on my bb. I just re-read your post.

I've pulled off the bumper and i haven't found anything that looked like a drain tube.

honestly, I'm pretty confident that it'll be in the rear quarter panel man. I'd suggest you try the C pillar next.

    Yeah.
Shit, I guess I'll have to look again.
I looked around in the front & rear side of the rear wheel well..behind the liner, but I didn't see any drain tubes.
It must be tucked up in behind the sheet metal that forms the wheels well.

The only drain tube I was able to find was for the gas filler overflow/drain.

I don't see your diagram in your post. This is from Bentley....note that the instructions read to take the rear bumper off, but the diagram clearly shows them ending in the forward side of the rear wheel area. I bought a thin speedo cable from the auto parts store but found it impossible to get it into the drains from the sunroof side. I have yet to pull the rear wheel liners myself to go at it from that end. Using a flashlight and getting into the right position, you can see the rear drains on the sunroof side.

    AudiNaut:
Yes, I had the same diagram posted earlier from Bentley..but as you said, it contradicts it's self.
Diagram show at bottom of "C" pillar...but says remove rear bumper cover, so I don't have a clue.

I did look behind the rear wheel liner, but as I stated above, didn't find anything.

I will post an update possibly this weekend when I can inspect further.
