Story of why my car had a concussion 56k beware!

Well i recently washed under my hood, well more like misted it, and everything ran fine till i got home c. 10miles, and then i change my DV, and nothing car cranks but no spark. Anyways long story short the car had to be towed, to our surprise(not really) wiring harness that goes to the coil pack has disintigrated, and well my uncle had a 2.0T passat motor sitting around so we used a part of its wiring harness for my coil packs looks much better, and works better too lol.

Im sorry man but WTF, they have a shop and they couldn't solder the wires or even use butt connectors !?

Nonetheless, Im glad you're back on the road

he could have, dude my uncle's own the shop he had the harness laying around and it had given me trouble before, it only cost me $50 to repair, and that was to cover the tow truck. i wanted a new harness.

Is that a name brand or are they actual coilpacks from a STI?

Do you know the root cause as to why your coil pack harness fried? Was it exposed to excessive heat (exhaust) or was there a voltage glitch or just poor craftsmanship of the physical wires? I have not heard of this problem before.

Glad to hear you got it fixed and the fix looks robust from the photo you provide.

Thanx Doug see my car was a late 02 that Audi slapped an 03 year on, and for the 02's there was a recall/TSB for Engine wiring harness replacement, due to biodegradable insulation, that could not tolerate heat. Similar to the wiring issues that a pre-1995 W140 MBZ S-class was suffering from. And i was considering putting a whole new wiring harness for the car, but it costs RESALE price $1400 and requires 3 days of work, so about $3000 is what i would be looking at. My uncle had this laying around off a 2.0T Passat so we figured we'd use the section for this purpose, very clean looking.

My uncles are the best man, the one that helped me on this will swim across the atlantic, for my sister and me. My other uncle will freakin make u laugh like u've never laughed before. These guys no so much about cars it is sad, they've built more engines than i can even count. they average maybe 2 a week each, all porsche motors.

If u take pride in ur work and ur doing something because u like it like both my uncles u'll be good at it, John the one who did all the work could tell u what's wrong over the phone if u put the phone to the motor, he's really something.

Never heard of that with the insulation. Good to know.

My car is an early 2002 manufactured in Oct/Nov of 2001.

The engine wiring harness can be had from Shokan for around $500. I asked because I wanted an extra one to cut up and simplify. Someday I'll find a car being parted out and grab the engine harness.

I have some questions about your car since I love it and I think it's the same color as mine. First off I think I am sold on the USP front now, it looks so clean on Ming. What type of side mirrors are running? And what front Splitter? Also any more pictures of the car?

^^no body shop well not anymore just a shop they only do body work for their own cars.

Smitty it's ming with S4 OEM plastic? mirror covers, and that's the Vinny mod but it looks terrible because i didn't buy the right one will do soon.

As for pix, trying to keep them till i'm done.

Shokan has them for $500? i might buy one and use it to redo my Injector ones.

Thank God no fires i would lose my mind.
