Symphony II+ Install in B6 Issue - MFSW

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have successfully (almost) installed a Symphony II+ in my B6, and everything is working beautifully except for my Multi Function Steering Wheel. I have coded the unit successfully so pretty sure I have the wiring setup properly (swapped K-Line and Bose wire as well as the extra power of course).

The volume controls on the wheel work fine but the next/previous track and next/previous station/CD etc buttons have no function at all.

Anyone else had this happen and if so is there a work around?

    TIA!

    sort of a thread jack:

was it an easy switch fro symphony II to a II+??
I have been told it is plug and play? what your opinion, advice would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks
I have one in the garage, just have not had the time yet.

No problem at all! It is a piece of cake... If you already have a B6 to RNS-E adapter, you will need to swap a couple pins around (bose and K-Line) and also jumper over power from pin 16 to pin 15 on the block, easy enough.

If you don't have an RNS-E to B6 adapter, your best bet would be to buy a ready made harness from either someone here (TeddyBGame can fashion you one) or this site: Symphony II to Symphony II+ adapter

They also sell the Fakra antenna adapter you'll need if you want normal Radio function (Sat works fine without it).

    Hope that helps!

Yeah, I've ordered one too; I have a feeling that my 'hacked' b6 to rns-e adapter may be the reason some of my mfsw buttons do not function. Needed the diversity antenna adapter too so....

The mfsw talks over CAN with the head unit, if the radio turns off/on with ignition CAn is working. Might be the coding of the head unit though, check this to confirm that mfsw is enabled on the head unit: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/...II_Plus#Coding

Well got my new harness and fakra today... same deal, does not work with the MFSW... Well volume does, but nothing else. I'm going to try to recode again this evening and clear all error codes from antenna.

Tom Sawyer, Is the adapter required for FM reception: "FAKRA to DIN antenna adapter #16195"?

Yes it is required for FM reception. Nope, it was the 50 ohm to FAKRA adapter with diversity #16142. Once side is not used, just pushed the existing FAKRA for diversity aside in the dash and used the adapter to connect the antenna. My FM reception is just fine.

I pulled the unit hooking up my II and my MFSW controls work just fine... with the new harness, it has to be something in the head unit making only my volume buttons work on the MFSW. Frustrating for sure. Will try a recode here in a bit. Am trying to find out which pins on the quad lock are for the Line-In before I button it up so I can go ahead and wire the Line In on the connector for my iPhone. I have the unit coded for Line In so it now switches to Line In when I press CD twice.

Re: Symphony II+ Install in B6 Issue - MFSW

Found the line-in pins... they are on the label on the unit... LOL!
    Works like a champ.

Now if I could just get all my MFSW buttons working this would be a perfect and complete install!

FM reception is really great, no problems at all there.

Re: Symphony II+ Install in B6 Issue - MFSW

So theoretically, all that is required to upgrade from a II to a II+ is

    1) the II to II+ plus adapter from Europarts
    2) the FAKRA adapter with diversity from Europarts
    3) VAG recoding

FM, factory BT and MFSW should all retain their functionality as well with the above install. The factory SAT pre-wiring will be retained as well.

Is all this correct? (BTW, I'm referring to install on a B7) Thanks!

This is correct... and with the exception of full MFSW controls working, it is 100% perfect in my B6. Perhaps this unit only works with B7 MFSW's? Who knows... I've made 100% sure the coding is right... coded for MFSW + Aux (5 I believe)... right off of Ross Tech Wiki.

I was told by Winston that switching from II to a II+ that VAG recoding is not needed?

Did you by chance get the message "CD ERROR SERVICE" after supplying power to the II+? Is this somehow related to the "transport mode" lock?

Nope, I sure didn't... works perfectly in every way except 4 of the 6 MFSW buttons... only volume works, still.
