just wondering how hard it is to replace a crank sensor? by the looks of the new sensor its just 1 screw holding it on and then the connector. i just dont know where it is/if there is any specifics to the job. anyone got a DIY or wanna quickly explain the low down for me? thanks.

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

engine speed sensor (engine rotational speed sensor, rpm, etc..): http://a4mods.com/#index.php?page=we...eedsensor.html

What do you mean by "crank sensor"? I thought you mean speed sensor. There are no other sensors on the crankshaft of the 1.8T except the speed sensor.

Are you referring to the sensors in the transmission?

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

Do you have the codes he pulled?

I recently replaced my engine speed sensor and if that's the part you're referencing, wasn't too bad to R&R. Took me about 30-40 minutes.

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

nope, and i doubt he knows the code either. but a good shop told him he needed a "world pack crank sensor". i had never heard of it, but went to the dealer and asked for one anyway. got the same thing as in the DIY

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

interesting, never heard of that term either. If it's the same part as in the write up and has the same PN (should be written on the box as well as the sensor), hopefully it solves his problem.

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

^yea ill check that now. didnt even think of it. he's had his EPC light on and CEL and said sometimes its real hard to get it started. so sounds like this will solve the issue based on martini's writeup

edit: yup same part number. ill do it up probably in the parking lot of NSDA's gtg on sunday haha.

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

cool. When mine went, I had the EPC and CEL light as well, not all the time but intermittently in the beginning then got worse. Car would stall when sitting at a light.

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

Sounds like just different terminology getting thrown around.

Again, that sensor in the a4mods.com write-up is the only engine rotational speed sensor present on the crankshaft of the 1.8 motor. I do not know what else your buddy's problem could be unless the code is referring to the vehicle speed sensor in the transmission (for your speedometer).

    Re: crank sensor replacement.

I've been having this problem lately.. EPC and CEL accompanied by random stalling, especially while the car is resting like at a stoplight. It's intermittent, happening usually once a day accompanied by limp mode. The codes i got are:

    P0321
    Ignition/Dist
    Engine speed input
    CKT Range/Perf

    P0322
    Ignition/Dist
    Engine speed input
    No Signal

sounds like a bad crank sensor??
