i took my car to my tech school today to get this buzzing noise checked out. turns out it was the wheel bearing but they guy said that i need new front drive shafts because the grease in them is really dirty. he said i also need a new boot in it. i know i need a new bearing but do i really need to replace the whole driveshaft. its not bent and theres no rattle from it. should i just get a new boot and put some new grease on it?

its cheaper to replace the whole shaft than the boot and you get more new stuff for about the same amount of money...

I let my bearing go too long and had to replace my shaft..is probably your best bet..

That's not true, replacing the boot is much cheaper than buying a whole half shaft. The boot kits are about $20 and if you are mechanically inclined it will only cost you that plus an hour or two of our life. or give one of your friends $100 to deal with the mess and you are still coming out on top considering a half shaft is about $120+.

Not worth it to take the shaft out and not replace it.....Just get a new one. Or if the cv joint hasnt gone for to long then you can rebuild it and get a new boot....But I think it makes more sense to just replace the whole thing at once(I like to do things right the first time).

my friend/mechanic said it would be the same time for doing the shaft as doing just the boot. and the shaft was only like $50 more. So i decided get more parts (shaft and boot and everything) for 50 more... the whole thing was like 120 for labor and parts
