    Camshaft replacement

OK, so blew my turbos and am gonna go bigger. Been researchng like crazy and deicided that I'm gonna change my intake cams to 2.8 cams. I want to make sure I need the cams from an AHA 30v engine, right?

I'm not asking whats the best cam, I'm just asking how hard it is to actually do. I'm having a machine shop freshen up the rest of the head, but they requested that I bring it in without the cams (???).

This is my first time doing this and I would like to keep the screw-ups to a minimum. Is there a DIY write-up? or is the bentley the best option for that? Anyone with experience, please chime in.

wrenching will commence in 3-4 weeks

    TIA

Stick with stock cams. You'll just lose low and mid range with 2.8L cams. Unless you have gt28's... you're not going to get anything from them.

Even RS4 cams aren't worth the labor with K04's, stock intake mani and stock heads.

FYI... plans are to go single turbo, would like the addition on the top end.

    Re: Camshaft replacement

If you haven't sourced yourself a set of 2.8L cams yet, let me know, as I have a set for sale. On just about any larger turbo setup, these will be beneficial as they'll provide a longer duration for time that your intake valves will be open, resulting in more air being able to be drawn into each cylinder and GENERATING MORE POWER!

Although 2.8L cams provide a longer duration over the stock cam, I wouldn't use them WITHOUT THE COMBINATION of an adjustable cam sprocket for overlap correction. (http://www.034motorsport.com/product...ducts_id=14022)

^^ ok thanks. so, i need to put the adjustable cam sprocket on my exhaust cams in combo with the 2.8intake cams?

Also, I have sourced a pair of 2.8 intake cams for $170 shipped. Can you beat that?

I swapped mine out with 2.8's, i took my cams out before i pulled the heads. I used nail polish and marked what link was on what tooth. Thats all. your going to need the special tool for taking the tension off the cam tensioner. New gasket for it and half moon.

This is exactly the guy I need to talk to. Did you have to change anything else with the cams, valves, lifters, etc? Such as, using the adjustable sprocket from 034 as mentioned above?

    Re: Camshaft replacement

ok question here..are the 2.8cams or rs4 cams not worth it in terms of the top end power you gain compared to low end torque loss...or do people say there not worth it because of the labor/install??

RS4 cams aren't worth it because they don't do anything. I did back to back dyno pulls and I didn't gain any power. Maybe a few hp wayyy up top. But nothing to justify the cost or pita install.

With 2.8's you lose a ton of low end. Not bad for turbo's with lag, because you gain a ton of top end flow. But with k04's you don't want to lose low end, and they can't flow enough up top to take advantage of them. I've also heard they are a bit hard to tune for.

thanks for the input..ive heard similar stuff too..they'd probably make more sense on like a rs6hybrid setup with 2.8 heads..in the other intake mani thread, im sold on the 1 from vast...im thinkin of buying a stock TB and sending it out to get ported too, my ko4's dnt taper to bad im only at 20lbs and theyll go down to 18lbs right close to redline..but i wish it'd flow through the high high ends a little quicker..
