Are RHD B5's Allowed In The United States?

This is the scenario.
I'm considering moving to the United States.

What are the implications shipping out my B5?
Of course, it's RHD, and European spec.

I'm aware I'll have to replace both bumper's with US-spec ones, which I can replace with the originals once she's registered, assuming I can get her registered, that is.

What else would I have to replace to make her US-compliant? Are RHD cars allowed in the United States?

i had a '71 land rover 109 imported that was rhd. As long as the vehicle can pass inspection it can be registered here. I imported it from britain and it passed the safety inspection but didnt require the emissions testing because of it's age. i didnt have to change anything to us spec, they didnt require me to for it to be registered.

seen plenty of rhd cars. dozens of skylines as i know someone who imports them. Seen a rhd subi wagon. rhd is fine here. as far as i know, you shouldnt need to change anything to become us compatable.

They might try to give you shit about the clear corners but idk. The front bumper will be fine. many states dont even require a front plate. The 96 a4s in US had euro trunks. So maybe at most they will complain about the headlights and the trunk.

If the department of homeland security finds out about that r32, they will take it from you and crush it or force you to export it from the country. Yes im serious on this issue. R32s were never legal, and were imported under false information. You can have a r32 for track use only but you need to have it imported by a registered importer and they have to convert it, which was pretty expensive last i checked. The only legal skyline for on road use is the r33.

Also the reason the land rover was legal for importation is because it is 25 years old, and anything over 25 years old classifies as a classic car and can be imported legally.

r32s arent illegal to own. Just illegal to import. They get by it by shipping the body and motor/tranny seperate.

Technically you have to go about getting it registered as a kit car at that point, last i looked into the issue they were working on stopping this method as well. Apparently they seized a number of engines and cars and destroyed them

Everyone who thinks its illegal for R32 is wrong.

Last production dates for the R32 GTR were in '94. R33 (non-GTR) started in '93. R32's through R34s were legal when they were imported by MotoRex. They were given R33 VINs, but DOT/NHTSA gave owners the ok since it was out of their control. All of those cars were basically grandfathered into the system when MotoRex went under even though they didnt meet the requirements.


We did a lot of research and most of the above was copypasta from what we learned

The car is legit, insured and a lot more fun then any B5.

MotoRex was legit. R32's were legal.

Good thing for you Siena is that the B5 was already sold here in the US, so it should be easier to register. Most people struggle with it when the car has never been on these shores in any way. I myself has a RHD EG6. I got tons of looks and pulled over all the time.

If you move to the right state they wont care what mods are on the car. As far as importing idk how it all works but I would think you could keep your bumpers on the car but the headlights would make sense to have to swap over. I know Indiana and Florida and I am fairly sure Texas don't give a crap what you do to your car well except for Merriliville Indiana haha only part that has emissions. Here in the part of Indiana I live in I can take my cat's out and even if I am pulled over they wont do anything about it. And as long as you don't piss off the wrong cop you can almost drive around straight piped w/o getting a ticket lol. I love living here lol.

Washington is great, no CEL=emissions pass, thats all they check, my 2 other non OBD2 car wo/ a cat passes just fine

RHD cars though, I just got to play with a '74 Rolls Royce that's RHD in the shop this week. I did a clutch and flywheel on a '93 RX7 Twin turbo, RHD as well. There's a handfull of them around, they just don't come out to play much.

If you're coming over to the States, bring the TDI A4. I'll buy it from you, hands down.

and most southern states dont have strict laws.

we dont even have any type of inspection.

Did I mention in MI you can license just about anything you want?

You can swap a motorcycle engine into a golf cart, but DOT approved tires and a windshield on it (and lighting), and get it licensed? Hell yea, MI is cool.

you should move to York, PA. there is a huge scene all around all major cities are close by. amaizing tuning shops local. Cops dont pose any issue at all as far as having heavy modded cars that should belong on a track. and if you decide to make the move and bring your car my best friends dad owns a worldwide shipping company and ship cars to and from europe alot.

you dont need to replace your bumpers with us spec ones.
idk if u pass us emissions your all set lol i dont see it as a problem since people pass emissions with catless exahausts
