quick question - what glue to use for carbon fiber mirror caps

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
just received my carbon fiber mirror caps that fit over the existing mirror housings. The fit is pretty snug so double-sided tape might throw off fitment

What type of glue can I use to attach these covers without damaging my paint? I'd really prefer something I could just pickup at a lowes or home depot

    Thanks

double sided tape is your only option if you are in fear of damaging paint.

else for glue, you would use any exposy. Another option is getting thinner double sided tape!

I think any type of glue is going to possible ruin the factory paint....but if you don't put anything on I guess they could be stolen

You can pick up 3M silicone adhesive/sealant from Home Depot. Silicone adhesive will not completely dry so it will keep the covers secure in all weather conditions. Just read the package and make sure it will adhere to paint.

Just a few spots of adhesive between the two parts will be sufficient to hold them on securely. You will also be able to take off the covers and clean the silicone from the mirrors if you decide to.

I wouldn't use double-sided tape. No matter how thin the tape is, it will always leave a gap the thickness of the tape.

Exactly - it's a mirror cap, not housing, so any gap, no matter how small, will make it look bad. That's a great idea though - can anyone second this? Will the silicone adhesive harm the clearcoat/paint?

    Thanks everyone

I am not sure how it will reacte with the paint, but silicon is the best option if you ever want the caps of again without breaking the housing.
    Good luck :)
