    Blinking coolant light

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My coolant light has been blinking since I bought the car. The coolant gauge has intermittently worked, so I replaced the temp sensor but it didn't fix the problem. The light still blinks and the temp gauge still works when It wants to. The coolant bottle has enough coolant that it shouldn't be on. Could the sensor in the bottle be causing the light to blink? And if it is that how come my gauge doesn't work?

Might want to try pulling the plug off the bottom of the tank and see if another warning light comes up, if not then one of the wires on that harness might be broken.

    Re: Blinking coolant light

I tired that at one point and the light continued to blink with no additional lights coming on.

So I must have a broken wire going to the sensor on the tank.

Where do those wires end up? I'm thinking it would be easier to run a continuity test instead of having to physically trace the wires.

Thermostat dude, probably stuck, happens all the time. Get it checked out asap.

    Re: Blinking coolant light

But would a stuck thermostat cause a blinking light?

    Re: Blinking coolant light

Mine was, the light was on all the time, temp gauge was also all over the place.
My radiator was cold to the touch, after the new thermostat(the first time, and second, and 4th and 5th....) it went back to normal. Might want to check that out first. I stopped putting water in mine and the problem went away.

Make sure to do a continuity test on the sensor on the bottom of the tank to see if the sensor is working correctly before you start doing tests on the wires.

    Re: Blinking coolant light

I guess I'll toss a thermostat in it this weekend along with the other stuff I planed on working on. It sucks being at school away from being able to work on my car.

Any tips on doing the thermostat? It doesn't look to be a simple job but we'll see.
