    I installed my AWE boost gauge today and expected stock boost #'s. I have owned the car for a couple of weeks. On my test drive I noticed that I was spiking about 18-20 and holding between 10-15. I have the stock diverter valves on it still so I guess that's my next purchase. It was in drive and tip seemed to have more boost (if even possible) but I was trying to watch the road, the gauge, and hold the camera too. When I had the ecu out, I didn't see any markings other than stock. I live at 6,500 ft elev. if that makes a difference.

    you dont need new diverter valves until they die... might as well just wait.
    It's normal for boost to taper down to that by redline, not a DV problem

    I thought that the stock dv's couldn't hold chipped boost, I read that somewhere on here. Is it not true?

    yes its true but they dont ALWAYS tear... then probably will tear at somepoint down the road.

    lol thats a joke.... My stock DVs held APR's boost great for 1000 miles, and I drive pretty aggressively

    I took my car to have apr flash my ecu only to find that it wouldnt upload....meaning i already had a chip in there lol put that 600bucks back in my pocket lol

    ive been on my stockies for 10k miles now with no problems, spike at 16, hold 15 regularly on APR

    Kinda sucks right.. You think to yourself "Wow.. This car's pretty fast.. With a chip.. ZOMG!!!". Then you find out you're already chipped and you get disappointed.

    Happened with me in my GTI.

    Exactly, I was actually hoping it was stock, as I was going to keep it that way until the turbos blow. Iam kinda happy though. I was disappointed though as I was thinking that this was fast for a stock car.

    Do yourself a favor and upgrade the DVs to 710Ns now. Don't listen to people saying the stock ones are fine. They will eventually sh!t the bed so better to be proactive like you were thinking. I'd also consider a beefier TBB while you're at it.

    what is your idle vacuum read OP?? judging by that first video I saw 10.... thats low. what does it read though when sitting there in park?

    About 18-20 in park. When driving, and I let off, it goes between 20-25. I have a video of the vacuum in park too, I'll post tonight.

    Yeah, I think it is the darintake, I don't remember hearing it before. It loos like one of the dv's have been replaced but they're not the "N"s.

    oh okay, that is a normal vacuum. just wanted to make sure you didn't have any leaks... Diverters were one of the first things I did to my car back almost 2 years ago. Did Hyperboost DV's. they were 169 a piece but Ive never had ANY problems with them and stratmosphere has great customer service.

    Man, u beat me to it!!! and Jung, shame on you for telling him he is fine w/ his stock DV's!!! I'm sure he is until one day he is only hitting 8-9 psi and can't figure out why he has a boost leak!!!

    So just be cautious and replace your DV's TBB and (if 2000) either delete or get a Samco fhose

    It's an 02 so no F hose. I have been reading up on the car so I know the 710n's are good and I think I'll get those. I like the forge too though.

    Just remember w/ the metal DV's like the forge 007, APR R1, ect. those need to be cleaned and re-lubbed periodically, or the spring mechanism will fail (many don't know this and think it is a maintenance free item)

    That acceleration doesnt seem like a chipped S4, just my guess, probably a boost leak.

    I'm pretty sure the APR R1 is a diaphragm based (no spring) DV and is maintenance free.

    I don't think there's a boost leak, it runs great. I also live at 6,500 ft and you lose 10% of your hp for every 1,000 ft. in elevation you go. When I go to Sacramento, this thing screams. I don't see or fell any boost leaks.

    i spoke to awe tuning today and they were telling me if the weather outside is hotter you will see higher spikes in boost. (i dont know why i am no expert or know if this is true), your S4 is probably fine and you dont have a boost leak. Your like me and worry to much, but if your 15-16psi spiking to 17-18 your perfectly fine.

    As for Dv's i just got the 710n's for $45 dollars each which is much better than $150 each for like APR. Just the 710n's hold good and for the price you cant beat it.

    Yeah, I was watching it today and I am spiking 17-18 and holding 15-16 exactly so I'm not worried about it.
    I'll upgrade the dv's soon. I want an exhaust now but with Christmas coming up and 3 kids, it will have to wait. My wife is having the windows tinted darker for me for Christmas so I'm ok for now I guess.

    I was debating on buying an 03 or newer S4 this summer or buying another 02 with a 6 speed and going stage 3, I think I'm staying with the B5. That will be my fun fast car. I just want this one to be a nice sleeper daily driver.

    That is correct... Warmer air is less dense which means more boost is required to keep the A/F ratio on par... In the winter, when the air is more dense, less PSI is needed to produce the same amount of air since it is more dense. The N75 valve adjusts for this which is a great benefit over a MBC in standalone where it will not, and you run the risk of running lean.
