JHM FMIC kit for C5 A6 now SELLING and on SALE. NEW Product!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
We made a front mount kit earlier this year for the B5 S4. So since the A6 has the same motor we figured we should help the A6 owners out as well and see about adapting this kit for the C5 A6. Well it turned out better than expected. It fits like a glove with NO bumper support cutting and only a little triming of some plastic at the base of the bumper cover. The biggest mod is relocating or replacing (your choice) the Power Steering cooler. Plus the install looks clean and stealth.

This kit is now on sale for only $550. With the FMIC core, JHM piping kit, all the brackets and hardware and video instructions. This is the same FMIC core I used on my B5 S4 that went 11.1 @ 130mph with full interior.

Check it here in our store --> http://www.jhmotorsports.com/shop/ca...roducts_id=212

Here are some pics to show you how well it fits. (you can also paint the pipes and core solid black for the ultimate sleeper look)

Man that fits sweet on the A6, way better fitting than on the B5 S4. Looks like it was made for it. I know some people with this kit on their B5 S4s and they absolutely love how low the intake temps stay run after run after run. What to give the A6 guys some love.

Does the top half of the core get any airflow over it?
My main issue with front mounts on the C5 is the lack of bumper opening.

    Other than that, looks great.

here is a comparison for you frank

i heard its not really worth it to go FMIC on stock k03s. on a stage 2+ car you would see some benefits. it has something to do with your stock tuning not making enough psi to pressurize the FMIC fast enough, and could cause you to increase lag. on a stage 3 application this wouldnt happen as you are boosting 22-24 psi or so.

looks good guys, once i get my new tranny in, i should be picking this up, along with your solid throw shifter

But air still comes in and then up. Also this core is so overkill (rated to 800hp) and with its long path accross (more time to cool) and being 3" thick it works awesome.

Here is a pic of my car with this core when I just had a pieced together piping kit before I had this piping kit done. As you can see the top half is blocked However I have been able to run 25 psi plus and run an 11.1 @ 130mph full interior quarter mile pass with my car.

Also as the bottom half cools a little better the top half will transfer heat to it as well and air does get up in there.

Yes we used this core on our record setting K03 car with full interior that went 12.28 @ 114mph in the quarter mile. It blows RS4s and AWEs out of the water. We currently have this core on several K03 cars locally and they love it especially when temps get over 85f.

Nice chart, that is the same experience I have seen on many different setups and cars. AWEs are not much better than RS4s. If you want the king of sidemounts we also sell ERs that could probably easily fit the A6 as well. But for twice the price.

True on a K03 car it will cause a slight lag since the core is so large. But on an Automatic car this will be less noticeable since you don't have to shift and make it respool. However the benefit in warm temps far outweighs that. Like I said above we went very fast with a K03 car with this core and have several local guys that love it when temps are over 85f. It starts really shining big time. Your car won't feel like such a pig.

    Thanks guys.

Most definitely, it will help a bunch especially if it is chipped. We got them on K03 cars out here and they love how much better it is in the summer heat. Yeah it slows down since it is hot some but not near as bad.

What kind of advice or options are you suggesting for the relocation of the power steering cooler and electric fan. I have absolutely been looking out for this option, thank goodness it's finally here.

Well you eliminate the factory aux fan that is only for the A/C. Some people in colder climates don't worry about it since the mechanical fan gets the job done. We found on a B5 S4 out here that he was fine even in 95F temps with stop and go and the A/C on his temps were fine.

However on my car and many of my customers cars we install an Electric Fan Kit (available in medium and high flow) The will eliminate the stock mechanical fan but flows more air so it more than compensates. Then if wired properly (paper instructions and video instructions supplied showing you which wire to tap into) it will kick on anytime the A/C is on just like the OEM auxilary fan you deleted and/or if the engine temp is above 193f. This is how I recommend to do it and this is only a $200 option for the FMIC kit (see drop down boxes). The high flow fan kit is pretty loud but I have been fine in stop and go traffic with the A/C blasting in 108f temps with zero issues as have many other customers. The medium flow fan is a little quieter and should work as well as the stock mechanical fan but save you that horsepower by the engine not having to turn the fan.

As for the power steering cooler I have seen 3 approaches.
    1. Buy and install a $50 PS cooler from your local parts supplier and zip tie it up in the drivers side inner fender area where one of yuour sidemounts used to be.
    2. Put the OEM ps cooler in front of the FMIC (however the PS cooler is not cold and may affect your FMIC temps a litte). The one guy who did this however has seen really good temps regardless.
    3. Chop up the OEM PS cooler and make it a little smaller and then put it in the Drivers inner fender. Some pictures of this here -> http://jhmotorsports.com/products/FMICC5A6.html They are near the bottom.

I was all set to get one, but that just killed the idea. I don't consider my A6 a "race car" but love the performance mods. Relocating the PS and Aux fan is a little too much for me... But to each his/her own. GREAT products guys!!

I don't see why not. But until I get my hands on one or have someone willing to try I can't say for sure. You have the same basic chassis and your bumpers look equally as big. Anything can be made to fit. You would be able to switch back if it didn't fit. All you would have to do is get your bumper off, then bolt it up and hook up the pipes, then see how the bumper fit and what minor clearancing would be needed. For obvious reasons I can't advertise it for those cars yet until I know for sure. We actually did the first C5 A6 3 months ago, but wanted to get one more done by a volunteer and also see how it worked out day to day. Obviously it worked out great.

As for modding cars these are minor modifications in comparison to what else could be done. But I can understand that not all do want to spend that much time on something. At least you guys don't have to spend an hour or 2 chopping up the bumper to get it to fit right.

Definitely for packaging and general ease of install. Not many turbo cars with front mounts from the factory aside from Evos and SRT4s. But Front Mounts have time and time again proved to be superior in cooling the air.

I am far from a "race car" (Full interior, even a subwoofer, normal tires) and I have one & LOVE IT! Logged a nice drop in temps & putting down more power. Relocating the PS cooler took all of 5 minutes of the process. I was already running an electric fan, so that part was done. Don't be scared of moving the PS cooler. The one I used was like $30 from Summit and has been issue-free. Removing the bumper is not very fun, but you need to do that for any IC setup.

Don't be scared, its not hard and its a great unit that has shown me really nice improvements. I have logged much lower temps. Cheers to Jay@JHM

It still sees plenty of air since the whole cavity behind the bumper is getting filled with oncoming airflow. And also, keep in mind, the two sides merge @ the TBB anyway. So even if one side is a lot cooler (which it will be even on side mounts due to restrictions, etc, but on this as well) it will average out before even entering the engine. The net result will still be much lower IATs.

heres some pics of mine on my allroad

install on an allroad takes a bit more moding of the front bumper suport but not as much as the B5 S4 requires

Thanks for the feedback and pics Dan. I have had 2 Allroad guys now install this kit and you are one of them. For the allroad based on what you told me and the other allroad guy some of the pipes needed to be lengthened a little by just cutting them and putting in a coupler. Please elaborate further if I am wrong since I am depending on your feedback and the other guy.

But for the A6 so far this has been a straight bolt on and mainly mods to or replacing the PS cooler is the only major mod. We now offer the 034 ps cooler as an option for this now --> http://www.jhmotorsports.com/shop/ca...roducts_id=386

ok as promised heres some pics of mine. sorry about the fuzzy pics my camera was on the night setting and the shutter speed was slowed down.

heres the pipe that i had to cut.

you can see the 034 powersteering cooler behind the pipes. it worked out great. the stock hoses are long enough to reach fine.

my bumper doesn't look that bad now. i had the filler plate off to get the part number off of it. so i could get a new one from the dealer.

Hey Gumby do you think you could cut the bumper out behind that filler plate and get the upper core some more flow when needed. Then just install the filler when not needed.

One could argue that the lack of the front e-fan and the subsequent loss of additional ambient air being forced through the A/C condenser at idle and low vehicle speeds + lots of hot air radiating out of the FMIC that will just soak into to the A/C condenser could result in worse A/C performance when it's hot out.

I'm sure you COULD, but it would take some custom fab work. The stock filler plate is attatched with some tar type adhesive similar to the stuff that seals our headlights. The upper core still gets airflow, after driving around it feels cool to the touch.

I wouldn't worry about that. I've been running the medium flow fan kit for about a year and a half now without any problems. The way it's wired up it kicks on when you turn on your a/c, so you still have a fan that runs.
