Anyone running PES T28 Software with different hardware?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey guys,

Is anyone running a BT setup using PES' T28 software. I've had the kit forever in my car now (about 100k miles worth) and my manifold has cracked again (rewelded first time) plus one of the studs broke again.

Anyway I am trying to source a new manifold from PES but have yet to hear back from them.

I am getting curious about swapping out to different hardware but wanted to know what people might be using with it (if they are).

I am not really going for max power as much as compatible alternate hardware with the current programming. I want it to have a decent fit (i.e. mating to the OEM cat location etc).

I'm basically looking for the easiest way around this.

Thanks for any info / ideas.

    I did read the rules...

I guess PES' kit is considered common place modding then. Well I am looking into other options now so where should I be looking?

...and yes the manifold does suck. I already went through generation 1 and generation 2 manifolds. I've had this kit in the early days but it's been relatively reliable outside of the manifold and broken studs.

I was asking what other hardware people might have run using PES' T28 software. Was I supposed to be the one telling people what to do? I'm looking for inspiration/ideas here.

I am running PES software with a GT3071R right now. I wouldn't recommend it.

Anyways. PES does great work casting manifolds...
    It SHOULD look like this:

But PES took some short cuts to create this:

Re: Anyone running PES T28 Software with different hardware?

I remember that post of yours years ago Rob.

I had the thicker Gen 1 mani back then and it was the studs I had to deal with.

I pretty much had enough after the gen 2 broken stud AND cracking issues.

What manifold are you using now? I was thinking of using it with a GT2860R (.64AR) setup simply because it looks physically compatible with the intake and out adapter on the current PES T-28. However I am stuck on what to do with the mani and how to make sure it mates to my HFC.

Jake you have no idea who you are even talking to he's been in his car long before you even entered MIDDLE SCHOOL or excited Elementary and had the STG3 kit pretty much the whole time. Just saying and the PES manifold is high quality to say the least. Keep that mind of yours open a bit more or research the kits that put down over 100k in STG3 form such as PES.

Ian, I really dont care who it is, this isnt the place to ask questions... Doesnt matter if its a noob or an old timer... One person thinks its ok to post about questions, then everyone else thinks they are entitled... I've seen an ATP manifold go 100k, as well as a cheap homebrew tubular manifold that is going on 65k+ now, but that doesn't mean that they were quality...

Btw, no harm intended, just a regular reply

Well I was under the impression it was for projects that are in motion, not hypothetical ones. Like, "I'm doing a PES kit and here's my setup..." Otherwise I would be posting in here everytime I had a question about a new turbo or some cool oil cooler for my car, ect. But thats up to the moderators!

Listen, dont limit your car to software, that would be a shame... If you want to upgrade, upgrade. Thats my .02

I would suggest a nice T3 manifold, since you will always want to upgrade. A 3071R .63 for a street 1.8L, or a 30R .63 for a street 2.0L. I was recently in a 30R .63 1.8T and I felt it wasn't worth it compared to his previous 3071R since he rarely uses race gas, and the extra boost wasnt from the 30R wasnt useable w/o race gas and IAT's didnt drop much at street boost level so its just wasnt worth it... Now a 30R on a street/race application, sure... On my 2008cc sreet/race car, I went 35R .63, I will let you know once the tuning is done how that setup performs

Re: Anyone running PES T28 Software with different hardware?

    Good seeing you here Ian.

It's all good. I hear ya Jake. I came this way because of Ian's link. I thought it was a pretty good forum for all the guys breaking out of the standard shell when people say "you can't do this blah blah". I've always believed there was more potential...especially back in the day when the K04 was the big turbo LOL.

Now my question did have a maintenance/generic question spin to it but it was more about my curiousity to go bigger. It's good to see B5ers still getting some love from tuners.

Thanks for your feedback about your hardware not letting the software be my basis. I agree. It can become a can of worms when going bigger. That's what I am trying to control but the more I look the more I am tempted to dive in.

Good stuff Jake. Looking forward to seeing your progress.

I sold my PES T28 kit about a month ago. I am running a SPA manifold with a 3071 now. My PES T28 kit ran awesome for almost 50K and put down 245whp on 91 octane long before I did meth, removed the CAT, and a few other bolt on goodies.

Nice. I'll have to dig around thse parts and see what other items (injectors, programming, etc) you are running.

Yeah my PES kit actually ran extremely well when the damn hardware didn't break down on me. I thought it was pretty reliable since I put about 18k a year on the kit. I plan on getting another car next year so I want to slowly convert this to a track car / weekend warrior. However I don't want to go too big per se just because I want to track it and the engine does have 170k on it...ahhh 7 miles on the Odo when I first picker her up from the dealer didn't seem so long ago.

630CC injectors with a 4" MAF. That ratios are close enough for it to work. I am running really rich. Like I said, I would not recommend doing this. I am just waiting on software.

I hear you. I started researching options. I am thinking of going Unitronic when I decide to change things out. I see they have a base program compatible with 415cc injectors and a TT or VR6 MAF housing. I was thinking of going with a GT28RS. I don't plan on doing any bottom end work so I want to keep things modest.
