    Introducing myself!!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was trying to find the "new member" section but had no success. Mods feel free to move this thread

Anyways, my name is Sam and I am looking to buy an S4. I currently drive a 2004 Infiniti G35 Coupe 6MT with an APS ST and a bunch of other mods. Hoping to sell off the G by winter and pick up an S4 before the snow hits.

Could anyone point me in the right direction when buying an S4? Things to look for if I buy a used one. The differences between the years. I've done quite a bit of skimming around this forum and found a bunch of useful info. But any additional info you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Hope to join the S4 club soon!!!!!

    Cheers

    Re: Introducing myself!!!!

Assuming you will be looking at either a B6 or B7 seeing as you are coming from an 04 G35. From there, the B6 or B7 choice depends on how new you want, how much you want to spend, and which you think looks better, aside from that basically the same car. Either way they are dirt cheap compared to the beginning of the year so I think you will be happy. For any mod questions or performance questions, use the search, it works.

Ya, 4 doors are nice! As far as things to look for on a CPO, there's a few common things that go out on these cars. Check about the window regulators and upper control arm bushings mostly. Obviously you probably know the obvious stuff to look for, so wont go over that one Anywyas, welcome to the B7 family!

LOL you were me six months ago. My name is also Sam and I was looking for an S4. ( Finally found the right one on Sept 29 2008 )

One of the performance differences between the 2008 S4 vs <2008 S4 is that the 2008 S4 has the RS4 sway bars standard. <2008 S4 has a smaller mm one. ( Concerns B7 only. Not sure about B6 )

If you do find a S4 that you want, make sure you can get tons of IMGs of it with various angles and whatnot.

If its used, get a Carfax report. Might not have 100% of everything that happened to the car, but a good place to find problems.

If its nearby, go in person to inspect it. Tell them to start the engine and if you can, take it out for a test drive.

Hopefully you will find the right S4!

    Re: Introducing myself!!!!

an S4 will give you more doors, but not much more space. The backseat is tiny on legroom. I reckon the S5 should be almost the same...just not as convenient.

Although there is a 6 month wait (or a hefty premium) on the S5 whereas you can steal a 2007 S4 for high 30s right now.

Another important thing to do, once you find the car you want is to get Audi to give you the ACCESS AUDI information on the car. This will summarize all of the optional extras that were bought with the car. Little things matter.

Also ensure you get one with NAV. It upgrades the radio, the interface with the driver and provides MP3 audio via two sleek SD card slots in behind the NAV screen (which slides out mechanically and is a real crowd pleaser).

    Re: Introducing myself!!!!

welcome to the forum. as far as a checklist of stuff, you probably already know them...carfax, CPO (i cant stress enough), if not a CPO get an inspection company to look at the car you wish to buy among other things. Audi vehicles are costly to repair. Grant it that you have mechanical skills and intend to perform any repairs yourself, the OEM parts cost an arm and a leg. Im not exaggerating. So, to be safe, get a CPO...any problem that comes up under warranty, you're pretty much set to go. If u decide not to get CPO then if you find any problems with the car, ask that it be deducted from the total sale price so you can bargain it down. Legroom in the back isnt the biggest, but consider this: I'm fat and 5'7 but i'm pretty comfortable back there; also my 3 young kids comfortably ride back there. goodluck and we here like to see photos of your new s4.

Were having a local meet on the 16th, you should stop by and talk to people first hand if youd like. There should be a handful of B6 S4s not sure about B7s. It could be a good learning experience if you have the time.

    Re: Introducing myself!!!!

    save your forehead!

you drove it for 9 months for $6,000...that's less than $700/month. Can't complain, can you? They're expensive to start, and depreciate fast...the guy you bought your car from paid $56,000 by the looks of it. Your $36,000 paid to him means it cost him $20,000 to drive it or about $900/month.
